Selfishness and pride love that phrase, but deep down we know it isn't right. When you're the one saying it, the honest answer sounds more like this: "I don't have the capacity to process this right now. We're both fragile, so I'm asking for a timeout so we can come back to it." ๐Ÿ™

That's playing fair. Anything else is illegal in the realm of the spirit. โš–๏ธ

When your feelings lie to you. ๐Ÿ’ญ

Many people grow up and are never taught that your feelings can lie to you. So often, people whoโ€™ve learned to live off the false discernment of their own feelings get tricked into thinking the problem is external โ€” that itโ€™s everyone elseโ€™s fault theyโ€™re upset โ€” when itโ€™s really internal: how you process information.

The world teaches you that if you get offended, then that means the other person needs to change. But the barometer of truth, which is the Holy Spirit, teaches us that if we get offended, sometimes it might be something inside of us that needs to be offended and even dethroned so that truth can have its place. ๐Ÿ•Š๏ธ

The world believes the gospel is offensive to its sinful lifestyles, so it wants the people preaching the gospel to change rather than them having to conform to truth. This same mindset can operate in the church, where people believe what their emotions tell them when they get hurt or offended at something someone says or does.

But if Jesus was your pastor, many people would have left His church a long time ago. The moment He turned and looked at you and said, โ€œGet thee behind me, Satanโ€ โ€” that could be extremely hurtful. And there are many instances where Jesus called out truth that could have been very hurtful to peopleโ€™s feelings. But the reality was, it was very true nonetheless. The Pharisees were whitewashed tombs โ€” dead on the inside, cleaned up on the outside. And the figure of speech He used could have been very hurtful to those who were listening and needed correction. Or, if they walked in humility, they would not have had their feelings hurtโ€ฆ or they would have addressed the hurt and not listened to it, because they knew that it was true. โœ๏ธ

Iโ€™ve heard the phrase: sometimes the Word of God will cut you before it heals you. That saying could not be more true.

Oftentimes pride blinds the person, because their constant offense convinces them that itโ€™s continuously everyone elseโ€™s fault. And thatโ€™s the very thing that keeps them from being able to recognize that they are the common denominator.

When your feelings lie to you, be careful that you donโ€™t believe them. ๐Ÿ™

๐Ÿ‘€ When correction comes, watch what comes out of you. "I only did it because you did." "I didn't mean it." Pure motives are wonderful, but they don't erase what the action did to someone. Deflecting keeps you stuck. ๐Ÿ”“ Repentance is simply owning it, and the moment you do, God has something to work with.

Evil thoughts. Perverse thoughts. Thoughts of harming their own children.

And a lot of churches are kidding themselves. People sit in pews for 30 years, afraid to say what is rolling around in their head, because they think they'll be locked up if they tell the truth.

When you're used to being condemned, you start filtering out anything that sounds like correction. And the second you slam that door ๐Ÿšช , pride steps up and offers to defend you. So the word God sent to free you bounces right off. Learn to separate the condemnation from the message. Throw out the shame โŒ and keep the truth โœ…
