Our small calf begins a big journey 🦒

Kwesi has officially begun meeting members of his journey—a lesser-known collective noun for a group of giraffes, but a fitting one as he takes this next step in getting to know his herd mates.

His introductions started earlier this week with just one hour alongside a few of the adults. Since then, his time with the group has gradually increased as he becomes more comfortable with the herd.

We'll be sharing more updates as Kwesi continues his journey.

Curious grey crowned cranes enjoying breakfast with keeper Georgie — though they seemed just as intrigued by the phone, of course.

Each evening, these cranes head into their overnight area where they rest and enjoy dinner, enrichment, and breakfast before being released out onto the savannah for the day, wandering among the rest of the menagerie. 🤍

Fun fact: Grey crowned cranes are the national bird of Uganda and can even be found on the country’s flag.

Sometimes you just want to relax in the mud on a sunny day… but even on those days, mom Eesha has to remember that Ozzy is still a rambunctious rhino calf demanding all of her time, love, and attention. 🦏☀️

Even through all the clingy calf love, Eesha maintains her patience. Our southern white rhinos seem to take it all in stride.

Winston the sulcata tortoise enjoying the finer things in life 🌹

Fresh roses, crisp romaine, and a feast laid atop freshly picked grasses — not a bad way to spend the day if you ask Winston. 🐢🤍

Ongava, our adult male southern white rhinoceros, celebrated his 30th birthday earlier this week 🎉🦏

In honor of the occasion, we wanted to share the big lip smack Ongava gives at the start of every meal. Compiled by Keeper Bailey, these clips capture some of his best recent “first bite” moments.

Our baby giraffe finally has a name...🦒

Meet Kwesi! (Kway • See)

Born on April 12, 2026, this little giraffe calf has spent the past several weeks growing stronger every day — learning bottle feedings, exploring his surroundings, and charming guests and caregivers alike with his curious personality.

Chosen from names selected by his animal care team, Kwesi received the most votes from our community, followed by Dogo and Henry. Thank you to everyone who helped become part of his story.

We’re so grateful to everyone who has followed his journey so far, and we can’t wait for you to continue watching Kwesi grow alongside his young Watusi friend, Cider. 🦒❤️🐂

With the help of keeper Kelsey, Boeing discovered the camera today… and immediately became his own biggest fan!

The posing, the staring, the curious little head tilts — somebody definitely liked what they saw. Do you approve of your reflection, Boeing?

Ozzy is quickly learning that growing up comes with a few adjustments!

He’s getting a little too big to comfortably nurse standing up from mom, Eeshsa, which means lots of impatient squeaks, awkward repositioning, and some serious problem-solving skills. The determination is there… the coordination is still a work in progress.
