The Board and Staff of the HSGB wish to extend our deepest condolences to our long time supporter, partner, and dear friend Ellen Kohn, founder of The Kohn Foundation, and her husband Steve, on the unexpected passing on Friday, May 5th of their eldest son Phil Kohn. Phil was 39 years old; and a beloved son, brother to Rob and Liz, uncle, nephew, and grandson. Our hearts go out to the entire family and his many friends around the world.

A bright light extinguished too soon, Phil's warmth, infectious personality, compassion, and love will never be forgotten. He loved adventure and travelled the world, but one of his favorite places was their second home at Old Bahama Bay in West End, Grand Bahama. He loved the beautiful blue Bahamian waters, boating and fishing, and he loved all animals, especially his family's potcake Sheekah.

In lieu of flowers and other gestures, the family suggest that anyone inclined to send a remembrance consider making a donation to The Kohn Foundation in Phil's memory to help the potcakes and potcats he loved so much.

2023 HSGB Pinup Pets of Paradise Calendar Photo Contest Is Back!

Is your pet cute enough to be a pinup? Would you like to see your pet in print? The Humane Society of Grand Bahama is launching our 2023 Pinup Pets of Paradise photo calendar contest. We are searching for 13 of the cutest, adorable, lovable pets of all types to be our Paradise Pin ups in our calendar. There are two rules to follow when you enter. 1. Only one picture per animal and 2. Only animals in the picture, no humans. Cost to enter is $10 per photo. Please email proof of donation and photo to [email protected]. Donations can be made online at www.thekohnfoundation.org/donate.php or in person at the Humane Society of Grand Bahama. The Grand Prize photo will be featured as our cover Pinup for the 2023 Calendar. Other winners will be featured on one month of the 2023 Calendar.

Photo contest entry period is September 7th to September 21st. All photos will be uploaded to the HSGB page in a special album and the public will then vote by clicking like on the entries. Voting will run from September 22nd to October 5th. The 13 photos with the top number of likes will win and the one photo with the most likes will win the grand prize. Winners will be announced October 6th.

As we usually do, we are also selling dates in the calendar starting September 7th. If you have a special date that you would like to have memorialized with a photo of your pet, just email us at [email protected] and we will temporarily book that date for you if available. Once you know your date is available, please email proof of donation to [email protected] and we will book that date off for you. Dates go quickly and they are first come first served so don’t delay! Each date is $20 and your photo will be printed in every calendar on that date. Dates are available for purchase until November 2nd.

This is a wonderful gift for family and friends this upcoming holiday season. Calendars will be available for pre-order immediately for $25 plus shipping (shipping charges will vary depending on location) per calendar and will be on sale until December 5th. Grand Bahama calendars will be available for pickup in early December; all US and International orders will be mailed as soon as they are printed, from Florida.
