Grey Bears improves the health and well-being of seniors and our community through food distribution, resource conservation, and recycling

Grey Bears promotes good nutrition, activity and social connection as the perfect recipe for healthy aging. The Healthy Food program delivers a grocery bag of fresh fruits, vegetables and healthy staples to 4,600 Santa Cruz County seniors and families each week. We operate three recycling centers (including e-waste, Styrofoam and CRV redemption), thrift store, bookstore and computer electronics st

A few weeks ago, our wonderful gleaning volunteers visited a local couple’s property to harvest fresh produce for seniors in our community. 🍋💛

Together, they collected an incredible:

🥑195 lbs. of avocados
🍋1,888 lbs. of lemons

This beautiful donation was then shared through our Healthy Food Bags and food distribution program, helping bring fresh, nutritious produce directly to local seniors.

We are so grateful to this generous couple for opening their property to our gleaning volunteers and helping us glean fresh food for our community.

Every week, Grey Bears provides Healthy Food Bags to more than 4,000 seniors throughout Santa Cruz County through our Healthy Food Bag Program.

A few weeks ago Grey Bears was honored to receive the Be the Difference Award, hosted by the Volunteer Center of Santa Cruz County and Santa Cruz Community Credit Union. 💙

We were one of 10 nonprofits and businesses recognized with this award, and we are especially honored to have been nominated by Jane, a dedicated Grey Bears volunteer.

Together, with the support of our volunteers, we are making a positive difference in the community.

The Grey Bears community is made up of people from all walks of life who come together to support our mission of nourishing seniors across Santa Cruz County. 💛

Our team recently spotted this piece of artwork displayed on the bulletin board in our Healthy Food Warehouse. Not only did it bring a smile to our faces, but it also beautifully captures the heart of Grey Bears: people coming together around food and helping distribute it to neighbors in our community who need it most. 🍎
