Santa Lucia Sierra Club

Santa Lucia Sierra Club The first purpose of the Sierra Club is to explore, enjoy, and protect the wild places of the earth.

Since 1962, the Santa Lucia Chapter has been influential preserving local lands, including Montana de Oro State Park and the Santa Lucia Wilderness Area. Examples of current efforts include the Central Coast Heritage Protection Act now before Congress, and a campaign for a national marine sanctuary that would extend from Cambria to Santa Barbara, education about Community Choice Aggregation and sustainable water management, among others.

📣 San Luis Obispo County, Stand Up! Join us Wednesday, June 24 for a town hall to learn how the attack on the Roadless Rule could impact Los Padres National Forest and local public lands.

Together, we can show that our communities are paying attention—and that we will fight to protect our forests.

👉🏽 RSVP at sc.org/SL-TakeAction

For 25 years, the Roadless Rule has protected millions of acres of intact national forest from new roads, large-scale logging, and mining, including more than 635,000 acres in and around Los Padres National Forest. Now, the U.S. Forest Service is proposing to roll back these protections while limiting public input in the process.

Our politicians are speaking out against this bad, bad, horrible roadless rule. Won't you join us for the Public Town Hall: The Future of Our Wild Roadless Forests, Wednesday, June 24, 5:30-7:30pm at the Oddfellows Hall in SLO?

Public lands need champions—and today, we’re grateful for three. 🌲 Thank you to Senator Alex Padilla, Senator Maria Cantwell, and Senator Ron Wyden for leading efforts to block legislation that would codify the rollback of Roadless Rule protections.

For more than two decades, the Roadless Rule has helped safeguard some of our most intact public lands, including 635,000 acres in Los Padres National Forest, protecting clean water, wildlife habitat, recreation opportunities, and the wild character of these landscapes.

We’re grateful for leaders willing to stand up for public lands and recognize that these places are worth protecting for future generations.

Want to learn more about this topic? The Roadless Rule is a key national law that protects our national forests, but it is being targeted by the Trump administration. We are working to educate and empower local communities to get involved, particularly because Los Padres National Forest is right in SLO County. But Big Oil and Gas is pushing H.R.8330 and S.4340, the “Stop Climate Shakedowns Act of 2026,” to block climate lawsuits and shield polluters from responsibility—while communities face rising costs and real damage.
Tell Congress: no immunity for Big Oil and Gas. People over polluter profits.
