Our April meeting featured guest speaker, Lisa Fraser, from the Center for Family Strengthening (CFS). Since April is the Month of the Child, it is fitting that Lisa shares information about the various programs supported by CFS in San Luis Obispo County.

The Center for Family Strengthening, formally known as the SLO County Child Abuse Prevention Council, is a private nonprofit organization designated by the SLO County Board of Supervisors to lead local efforts in preventing and responding to child abuse and neglect. CFS focuses on strengthening families through education, advocacy, and community outreach.

Following the meeting, members enjoyed a delicious salad bar with strawberry shortcake for dessert. Here’s a link to last month’s scrumptious Greek Quinoa Salad.

Alexandria Chamberlain, Executive Director, Tolosa Children’s Dental Center spoke at our March meeting. CCFC has had a
long-standing partnership with Tolosa Dental, having awarded over $25,000 to them in grants since 1994. Tolosa Children’s Dental Center saw over 4,500 children last year, filling a critical need of providing dental care to underserved youth in SLO County. Socializing is also an important part of our meetings!

The first Wednesday of each month, this group of dedicated ladies meet. In addition to conducting business, we invite a speaker from an organization that received a grant from CCFC to share information about their work and how our grant funds were used. This month, Jody Watty, from the 805 Games (former Special Olympics), explained how United Cerebral Palsy will host games for children with developmental disabilities at Cuesta College. Meetings also include a social time prior to the start of the meeting and lunch following the meeting. If you are interested in learning more about us, please come to a meeting and see what we are all about. Check out our website for contact information.
