If you BuildIT… they will come.

With special thanks to the creative genius of Quron Reeves and his team at Kennek Media (https://www.kennekmedia.com), we share with you this 1.5 minute video ‘after-action’ summary of our June 4, 2026 Founders Day VIP Reception held in the world-class Grand Hall of the TJPA’s Salesforce Transit Center in San Francisco. This event recognized, honored and celebrated the Equity in Infrastructure Project for their work across the nation challenging public and private organizations to increase contracting opportunities for Historically Underutilized Businesses.

Over 300 ‘movers and shakers’ from throughout the infrastructure and transportation sectors traveled across the United States and the United Kingdom to attend this momentous event. Phillip A. Washington, John Porcari, Rick Jacobs and Dorval Cater were recognized as founders of Equity in Infrastructure, for their vision, leadership and dedication to creating positive economic impacts across all sectors of the AEC industry.

The event also marked the milestone of the TJPA being the first public agency in the United States to hold an outreach event to welcome LGBT/Allied construction companies to actively participate in the competitive bidding process on a public works project. That event, held in September 2013, sparked a world-wide movement within the AEC industry that now manifests itself in organizations like Building Equality (UK), Freehold+ (UK), Building with Pride Seattle (US), Building Pride (Australia), and BuildIT (Global).

Bay Area Contractors & Partners Meet Up, and this is the Small Business Takeover Edition! Thank you to our sponsors — ANCO IRON & CONSTRUCTION INC , Digital Disclosure, Q & A Consulting LLC., Tulum Systems, MAR CON Builders, Inc., and Buildit —for making this event happen. We truly appreciate each and every one of you!

The origins of this event started several years ago when key General Contractors began to convene to build relationships with construction industry organizations ‘outside’ of pre-bid meetings, RFP pursuits, and public outreach meetings. This organic commitment to the utilization of small, regional, diverse firms has evolved to building strong bonds and meaningful engagement. This ‘edition’ of the event is a ‘Small Business Takeover’ where a number of firms are ‘returning the favor’ and hosting this event which will bring hundreds together to celebrate economic impact!

Buildit Honors and celebrates Greg Sarris and the Federated Indians of the Graton Rancheria!

At our June 4, 2026 Founders Day Gala Dinner & Awards Program, we recognized an extraordinary member of our LGBTQ community, Greg Sarris, who is not only an educator, philanthropist and grass-roots community advocate – but he is also the Chairman of the Federated Indians of the Graton Rancheria. We also acknowledged and celebrated the Graton Rancheria community which is a federation of Coast Miwok and Southern Pomo groups recognized as a tribe by the US Congress.

As Chairman, Greg leads over 3,500 employees associated with the Graton Resort and Casino located in Rohnert Park/Sonoma County in California. He is also an owner who has overseen the $1 Billion+ resort development project which put hundreds of construction workers (including those from the LGBTQ community) to work for the last two years.

Founders and Associates of BuildIT have worked alongside Greg, and the Federated Indians of the Graton Rancheria, for over a decade where we have seen them build iconic buildings and critical infrastructure in Northern California. Greg is also a recognized national leader when it comes to championing cultural significance, education and environmental issues. He has never shied away from rolling up his sleeves to get the hard work done when it comes to community organization, construction and job creation.

Thank you, Greg, and the Federated Indians of the Graton Rancheria! Your remarks at the Gala Dinner & Awards Program were the highlight for many!

“Attending Founders Day and meeting so many successful LGBTQ professionals in the EPC and construction industry gave me something I deeply needed: hope. Seeing people who have built meaningful careers, leadership, and impact reminded me that we do have a place in this industry, that we can succeed, and that our voices and contributions have real value.”

The AEC industry gathers to honor and celebrate CMAA National’s President and CEO, Andrea S. Rutledge, CAE

It was a glorious, and stunningly balmy, evening along the San Francisco Bay on Wednesday, June 3, 2026, when 12 AEC Industry Organizations and hundreds of professionals, contractors, program and construction managers gathered to recognize the extraordinary contributions and accomplishments of Andrea Rutledge.

In the worlds of Scott Seltz, Publisher of Engineering News-Record: “For years, Andrea has been a tireless advocate for construction managers and for the profession itself. Through her leadership of CMAA, she helped elevate our industry, expand opportunities for professionals, and strengthen the voice of construction management nationwide.

But what many of us will remember most is not just what Andrea accomplished, it’s how she accomplished it.

She led with integrity, grace, and an incredible ability to bring people together. She made everyone feel welcome, valued, and heard whether they were industry veterans or young professionals just starting their careers.

Andrea's impact can be measured in stronger organizations, stronger careers, and a stronger profession. But her true legacy is the respect, admiration, and gratitude she has earned from all of us”.

BuildIT wishes Andrea Rutledge a remarkable, and joyous, ‘next Chapter!’

Tomorrow, Thursday, June 4, 2026, at the iconic TJPA Salesforce Transit Center in San Francisco, Buildit will proudly recognize and celebrate the Equity in Infrastructure Project (EIP), a transformative national initiative aimed at reshaping public contracting by increasing the number, size, and proportion of contracting opportunities awarded to Historically Underutilized Businesses (HUBs), including firms owned by minorities, women, and veterans.

John D. Porcari, former Deputy Secretary of the U.S. Department of Transportation
Dorval Carter, former President of the Chicago Transit Authority
Rick Jacobs, advisor to numerous major U.S. city mayors

Together, these leaders have championed a national movement to ensure public infrastructure investment reflects the full diversity, innovation, and strength of the American business community.

Buildit is profoundly honored with its collaboration with Webcor which began in June 2020 when we launched our efforts across the West Coast, North America and Globally.

Webcor’s history within the context of BuildIT began in September 2013 as the first contractor in the United States to produce an outreach event for a public works project (the $2.1B Phase One of the Salesforce Transit Center in downtown San Francisco which will eventually be the northern terminus of the California High Speed Rail) that focused on engaging with LGBT/Allied specialty contractors, material suppliers, and professionals.

They have since developed multiple Employee Resource Groups including – Qu**rs & Allies – a group focused on fostering inclusion, belonging, leadership development, and allyship for LGBTQ+ employees while positively influencing both company culture and the broader construction industry.

Webcor is currently building some of the largest public works projects in California and they are committed to hiring local and small businesses and professionals in every city, county, and region they work in.

Thank you, Webcor for being a steadfast supporter of all businesses that build our communities!

BuildIT was honored to be a Presenting Partner at the News-Record FutureTech 2026 Conference held from May 4–6 at the Hilton San Francisco Union Square—an energizing gathering of leaders shaping the future of the AEC industry.

As a Presenting Partner, BuildIT was especially excited to be part of the conversations driving innovation forward. A big thank you to Scott Seltz, ENR Publisher, and ENR Editor-in-Chief Scott Blair for convening such a dynamic program of speakers and roundtables.

Across sessions, one theme stood out: AI is no longer theoretical—it’s here, and it’s transforming how we plan, design, and build. From practical applications already delivering value, to candid discussions around data readiness, risk, and workforce adaptation, the dialogue struck a balance between opportunity and realism.

The expo floor reinforced that momentum, showcasing a wide range of emerging technologies and solutions pushing the boundaries of what’s possible in the built environment.

We left FutureTech inspired by the pace of innovation—and energized by the collective commitment to responsibly advancing AI across the industry.

Building Bigger/Stronger Collaborations in Seattle and the Pacific Northwest!

BuildIT was honored to join our partners at Turner Construction Company, Flatiron/Dragados (https://www.fdcorp.com/en) and the North Coast States Carpenters Union in Seattle on Wednesday, April 29th to discuss workforce development, training programs and the billions of dollars of infrastructure development taking place in Washington State and the Pacific Northwest (PNW).

For several years BuildIT has been partners with the Northern California Carpenters Union under the leadership of Jay Bradshaw, Cesar Sanchez, and Nancy Mateu. Earlier this year the Union announced they had re-organized to become the North Coast States Carpenters Union (NCSCU) so that their geographic region now includes all of Washington, Oregon and northern California - south to the Bakersfield region of the Central Valley.

It was with great pride that BuildIT brought together the executive leadership of Turner Construction and Flatiron/Dragados for this meeting with Jay and his leadership team from the PNW. With discussion topics ranging from marine workforce training programs, small business utilization, Sound Transit, King County, the upcoming naval shipyard projects throughout Puget Sound, to mass timber projects and high-rise developments – it was an incredibly lively discussion with a lot of shared values and opportunities for collaboration.

Thank you to Katie Trimpe and her team from Turner Construction (great new offices, by the way!) to Richard Grabinski, Travis Kraupa and Dave Horn from F/D – to the amazing Jay Bradshaw, Dan Nuncio and Antonio Acosta from the NCSCU.

There is a lot of work to be done… together!
