We are back in Cuba. 🇨🇺
This is our 5th visit to the island this year, delivering humanitarian aid and cancer medicines, and standing in solidarity with the Cuban people as they face the intensifying impact of the blockade.
During our first few days, we visited projects across Havana and delivered humanitarian aid to each of them.
At La Castellana Center, staff provide daily care and support for people living with severe mental disabilities. At Corral Falso, organizers run a community project serving children in the neighborhood without family support.
And at Havana’s Oncology Institute, we delivered more than $15,000 worth of cancer medicines—medicines that should not be scarce, but are increasingly difficult for Cuba to access as the impact of the blockade deepens.
We learned that more than 118,000 cancer patients in Cuba cannot reliably access the medicines they need, and that only about 30% of basic medicines are currently available on the island.
We also learned that the crisis goes far beyond access to medicines. Only one of Cuba’s six radiation therapy machines is currently operational. Of the remaining cancer treatment units, 70% are operating with radiation sources that have deteriorated and cannot be replaced under the sanctions, while thousands of patients wait for essential cancer treatment.
