With 2 months at Porchlight and counting, Carlos has been making quite a difference by being a regular volunteer on weekdays and weekends. Whether guiding first-timer shoppers through their first visit to helping sort food and troubleshooting behind the scenes, he does it all with a smile, helping community members and volunteers alike feel a sense of connection.

When asked about his favorite part of volunteering, Carlos says that it's seeing the direct positive impact of his work on the lives of individuals and families that come through our doors. It's returning volunteers like Carlos that give Porchlight an extra boost, and we are incredibly grateful to have him as part of the team.

Back-to-school season is here, and our volunteers are collecting school lunch essentials for families in need. Our most needed items are healthy snacks, shelf-stable proteins, fruit cups, and juice boxes.🍎

Food pantries run on people who take action – volunteers who show up, donors who give food, and supporters who give what they can financially. Every action matters, and together our volunteers make sure good, healthy food is redirected away from landfill and to community tables.💪

How do we play a role? Think grocery store – only rescued. You choose what your household uses, including allergy‑safe options. None of this would be possible without those who contribute.🤲

EXTRA FOODSHARE HOURS JUST ADDED! Looking to save on groceries in San Diego? This week we added shopping appointments on Friday!

Because this week our food rescue shelves are overflowing with an abundance of good food, this is a special date.

Date: 08/14- Friday
Time: 30-minute shopping appointments between 11 AM–1 PM

This is an excellent opportunity for the folks who have been asking us for more appointment availability. If Thursday or Saturday doesn’t work for you, this Friday is your chance to come by!
