Torrey Pines belongs to all of us. So does the revenue it generates.

We just redirected millions in golf course surplus revenue to rec centers, libraries, and parks β€” in the neighborhoods that need it most.

San Diego is sitting on a gold mine in our beauty, our weather, and everything that draws visitors from around the world. It’s time we made that work for the people who actually live here.

What’s another San Diego treasure we should be tapping into to benefit everyday San Diegans?

Library Foundation SD CEO Patrick Stewart sat down with The Written Scene podcast to talk about the challenges facing the San Diego Public Library system, the fight against book bans, and the importance of making sure every corner of our community feels at home in our branches. He also opens up about creativity, his own path, and why art and culture have always been at the heart of who he is.

We hope it gives you a clearer picture of the why behind this work.

Congratulations to the Oak Park - San Diego community on the May 14 groundbreaking for their new San Diego Public Library branch at Chollas Lake Park.

The current Oak Park Library branch has the second highest volume of after-school student visitors in the entire San Diego Public Library system. Think about what a community does to earn that in 5,200 square feet. The new two-story, 20,000-square-foot building will give them the space they need to keep serving their community, with reading areas, STEM programs, an innovation lab, a podcast room, a multipurpose room and more. Expected to open in spring 2028.

This is what years of community advocacy looks like. Congratulations to the Friends of Oak Park Library, District 4 Councilmember Henry Foster III, and former Councilmember Monica Montgomery Steppe and her staff. And thank you to San Diego Public Library Director Misty Jones for her presence and support at the groundbreaking.
