FROM THE EDITOR’S DESK June 2026
We are no longer gathering at the Marina Village Conference Center for our monthly meetings. We had
our 2nd meeting on May 6th at the Santa Clara Recreation Center located at 1008 Santa Clara Place, San
Diego, 92109 in Mission Beach. Meetings are now being booked there, possibly for the rest of the year,
while waiting for the Grand Opening of Local 135’s new building. Parking is tight due to outside activities
on the property, so try to arrive early or carpool. There is a second lot behind the playground next to the
recreation building. It will only get worse with the up coming summer months.
Retirees enjoyed celebrating Mother’s Day early with a Cinco De Mayo lunch! Thank you, Tammy and
JoJo, who brought chili “poppers” for all of us to enjoy! We had voted for the 2025 Member of the Year at
the April meeting. And the winner is……DEBORAH SLAUGHTER!…… Be sure to say,
“Congratulations!” for all of her efforts, time, and hard work! Also Don’t Forget: due to booking conflicts,
June’s meeting will be the 10th instead of the 3ird and July’s will be the 8th instead of the 1st.
Due to Ranch Catering increasing our cost per person for lunch from $15 to $25, your board voted and
approved to increase member cost to $20 and guests to $25 starting April 1st, 2026. YOU MUST STILL
RSVP 10 days before the June Luncheon by Sunday, May 31, 2026. PLEASE TEXT Jack at 619-246-1040 or
John at 760-672-5548. Leave your NAME and NUMBER and HOW MANY lunches you need. This will be
required indefinitely going forward if you wish to enjoy our wonderful catered meals.
This May 12th retirees attended a Storm baseball game in Lake Elsinore. They had about 20 people
show up and all were entertained and happy. Especially since the Storm won 4-3!! Stay tuned for more
activities in the future and please, remember, Kim Pollack is looking for volunteers with suggestions.
