Friends of Murray Canyon Preserve, San Diego

In the cover photo, one can see how the original road from Murray Ridge down through Murray Canyon was well above the current Mission Center Road. In photos section, remnants of that asphalt road are visible, though poked through with plants.
The Endangered Habitats Conservancy owns nearly all of Murray Canyon. I'm hopeful they will rehabilitate at least some of the old road, which would make a much safer path between Serra Mesa and Mission Valley.

Anyone know what's going on here, near the curve on Mission Center Road?

This is a picture of the old roadbed, well above Mission Center Road and near the elevation of I-805. Wouldn't it be great to have a walkway/bikeway at this elevation, instead of down on Mission Center Road?

The city's master plan calls for connecting communities via walking paths. Wouldn't it be great if the road in the banner picture was recreated? You can still find asphalt from the old road in some places, even up well above the curve, right behind backyards. The I-805 bridge gets in the way, however the path could be lowered there, then a small set of stairs installed on the uphill side, bringing walkers back up grade. This would be so much safer than walking Mission Center Road. Imagine kiosks along the way, pointing out the flora and fauna of the canyon, and some history. Maybe the new owners, the Endangered Habitats League, could work with the city on this idea.
