SNAP - Spay Neuter Action Project

SNAP - Spay Neuter Action Project SNAP is a purpose-driven 501(c)(3) organization offering LOW-NO COST spay/ neuter services to our local San Diego community. Join our pack!

The Spay-Neuter Action Project (SNAP) was co-founded in 1990 by a group of women who were volunteering at a local municipal animal shelter. After seeing countless stray animals come and go, these women knew adoptions alone weren’t going to solve the problem — there were simply too many unwanted animals for the number of available homes! To reduce the number of animals euthanized in shelters every

year, they had to reduce the number of homeless animals from coming into the shelter system in the first place. They published a referral guide of affordable spay/neuter providers in San Diego County, to address the problem of pet overpopulation at its source.

That effort eventually led to becoming an affordable spay/neuter provider. SNAP became a nonprofit, 501(c)3 Charitable Organization in 1995 and a registered charity in 1996. Our EIN (Federal Tax Identification Number) is 33-0517862. The SNAP Team of volunteers and medical professionals made it their mission to help reduce pet overpopulation and stop euthanasia in shelters. The original Neuter Scooter mobile surgical bus launched in 2003 to travel directly into lower-income communities to provide affordable spay/neuter services right where they were needed most. The SNAP North Neuter Scooter hit the road in 2019, and the SNAP East Spay Center opened doors in April 2024.
Tangible results have been realized over the years. Through dedication, passion, and strong programming, the SNAP team is proud of our efforts — and the results of over 85,000 animals fixed since 2003!

Won't you join us? Please consider making a donation, volunteering with us, or adopting a pet at your local shelter. And please spay and neuter your animals — it's a good thing!

🐰 SDAWC ADOPTION SPOTLIGHT: MEET RUMBLE! 💙

Meet Rumble, a sweet, curious, and very busy bunny from the San Diego House Rabbit Society, Inc!

Rumble is about 2 years old, neutered, and full of personality. This affectionate boy loves gentle pets, but he also has places to go and things to investigate! 😂🐰

He loves to hop, explore, binky, play with toys, and occasionally do a little “redecorating.” A home with plenty of space to exercise, or even a free-roam setup, could be a great match.

And the way to Rumble’s heart? FOOD! 🥗 He gets very excited about his pellets, fresh salads, and treats, which can also make training and bonding lots of fun.

Rumble is missing one upper incisor, but it doesn’t affect his ability to eat normally. His teeth will just need regular monitoring.

As a member of the San Diego Animal Welfare Coalition (SDAWC), SNAP is proud to help highlight adoptable animals from our coalition partners.

Could Rumble be the bunny missing from your family? 🏡💙

🐾 SDAWC ADOPTION SPOTLIGHT: MEET MAGIC! ✨

Meet Magic, an adorable black-and-white pup from PAWS of Coronado who’s ready to find his perfect adventure buddy! ❤️

Magic is smart, playful, and loves learning. He already knows sit, down, and how to relax on a mat. He walks nicely on leash and enjoys getting out to explore.

Magic would especially love a home with a slightly slower pace and someone who enjoys the outdoors. Think hiking trails, camping trips, neighborhood walks, and new adventures together! 🥾🌲🐾

And after the adventure? Magic has a great off-switch and is happy to settle in and relax by your side.

As a member of the San Diego Animal Welfare Coalition (SDAWC), SNAP is proud to help share adoptable pets from our coalition partners. Sometimes one share is all it takes to help a great dog find the right family.

💙🐾 REMINDER: SNAP PRICING UPDATE 🐾💙

Just a friendly reminder to our SNAP community that our updated spay and neuter pricing goes into effect September 1, 2026.

Like veterinary clinics everywhere, SNAP continues to see rising costs for medications, surgical supplies, equipment, staffing, transportation, and the many things needed to provide safe, high-quality care.

As a nonprofit, we work hard to keep spay and neuter services as affordable and accessible as possible for San Diego County pet families. This price adjustment will help us continue providing the care our community depends on.

We truly appreciate your understanding and continued support. Most of all, thank you for choosing to spay and neuter. 💙🐾

Prevention saves lives.

A huge thank you to SPCA International Veterinary Aid Program for supporting SNAP with nearly $10,000 in essential veterinary supplies!

This generous donation included surgical and exam gloves, gauze, sharps containers, digital thermometers, cotton-tip applicators, disposable towel drapes, and 400 sterilization pouches.

These supplies are used every day by our veterinary teams as we provide affordable spay and neuter services and other important care for pets throughout San Diego County.

Donations like this help stretch our resources further and allow us to serve more pets and families in our community. We’re incredibly grateful for this partnership and for the support of our mission.

🐾 SDAWC ADOPTION SPOTLIGHT: MEET FERNWHISPER! 🐾

As a member of the San Diego Animal Welfare Coalition (SDAWC), SNAP is proud to help spotlight adoptable pets from our coalition partners.

Meet Fernwhisper, or Ferny, a sweet 10-year-old senior cat at Frosted Faces Foundation He was one of more than 300 cats rescued by San Diego Humane Society from a hoarding situation in Julian.

Ferny is gentle, sensitive, and learning to trust again. Once he feels safe, he enjoys exploring, watching the world from the window, following his foster mom around, and purring when spoken to softly.

He would do best in a quiet, patient home where he can settle in at his own pace. He may not be a lap cat right away, but he has so much love to give. ❤️
