Did you know August is National Make-A-Will Month? πŸ“πŸ’›

It's the perfect nudge to finally sit down and put your wishes in writing β€” and a great time to think about the legacy you want to leave behind. For over 50 years, Walden Family Services has worked with foster children and youth across Southern California, and gifts made today can create opportunities that last for generations.

There are more ways to build that legacy than you might think: a will or trust, an IRA charitable gift or rollover, life insurance, life income gifts, stock donations, a Donor Advised Fund grant, or a simple pledge.

If you've been meaning to update your estate plan, this is your sign. Learn more about legacy giving at waldenfamily.org/legacy-giving, or reach out to Lorraine Fisher, Director of Philanthropy, at (619) 727-5879.

Calling all San Diego businesses, teams, and organizations πŸ“£

For over 50 years, Walden Family Services has worked with foster kids and youth across Southern California, connecting them with housing assistance, supportive resources, pathways to independence, and most importantly, HOPE.

One of the best ways for your organization to get involved: Wine D'Vine, our signature fundraising celebration, held this year at the beautiful Solana Beach home of chef Jeffrey Strauss. Sponsorship packages start at $2,500 and include guest seating β€” a great way to treat your team or clients to a night out while supporting the community.

Businesses can also explore year-round sponsorships, matching gift programs, and Donor Advised Fund partnerships.

Tag a business owner or team lead who'd want to be part of this. πŸ’› Learn more or become a sponsor: waldenfamily.org/give

For most incoming college students, back-to-school season means a shopping trip with mom, a car full of boxes, and a family group chat cheering them on through the first week.

For transitional age youth - many of them former foster youth - it can mean figuring out move-in day alone, stretching a first paycheck to cover a laptop, or wondering who to call when something goes wrong three weeks into the semester.

Here's the reality: nationally, only 8–12% of youth who age out of foster care earn a college degree, compared to 49% of their peers. It's not a talent gap, it's a support gap.

This back-to-school season, Walden is working to make sure transitional age youth entering or returning to college don't have to do it alone. Your gift can help cover:
πŸŽ’ Dorm and campus essentials
πŸ’» Laptops and course materials
πŸš— Move-in day support and transportation
πŸ“š Ongoing mentorship through the school year

Help a young person start this semester with someone in their corner.

Big news, San Diego πŸŽ‰ Our CEO, Teresa Stivers, is being recognized at the San Diego JACL "Never Forget" Gala on September 12!

For over 15 years, Teresa has poured her heart into Walden Family Services β€” helping build a program that gives young people a real shot at stability and a future they can call their own.

She leads with the same values the "Never Forget" Gala was built to honor: standing up for community, remembering where we came from, and making sure nobody gets left behind.

We're so grateful to call her our CEO. Congratulations, Teresa β€” this one's well earned. πŸ’›

A will isn't just about passing on your belongings, it's about passing on your values.

This National Make-A-Will Month, consider creating a legacy that reflects what matters most to you. A planned gift to Walden Family Services helps provide foster youth with the resources, encouragement, and opportunities they need to build independent, successful lives.

Whether through a will, trust, retirement account, or life insurance policy, your generosity can continue changing lives long into the future.

Because hope doesn't end with us, it grows through the lives we touch.

Yesterday was National Parents' Day, and today we're celebrating a different kind of courage.

At Walden Family Services, some of the young adults we serve aren't just building a future for themselves, they're building one for their children.

Many entered adulthood without the safety net of a family to lean on. Yet every day, they choose resilience. They balance work, school, parenting, and the challenges of creating stable, loving homes for the next generation.

Through safe housing, life skills, education, and individualized support, Walden is proud to walk alongside these remarkable young parents as they build brighter futures, for themselves and for their children.

To every parent working tirelessly to create a better tomorrow: We see you. We celebrate you. We're honored to be part of your journey.

Happy (belated) Parents' Day. πŸ’™
