Yes, she's as adorable as she looks.

Pancake is a stunning 4-year-old purebred Pembroke Welsh Corgi who recently arrived at The Barking Lot after being abandoned when her family moved away. She wasn't alone—her best friend Sierra, a beautiful yellow Lab, was left behind too. While we may never understand how anyone could leave these sweet girls behind, we're grateful to give them a safe place to land while they search for the loving homes they deserve.

Pancake is still settling in, but she's already making quite an impression. Friendly, confident, and incredibly sweet, she's been winning over volunteers and canine friends alike. She has done wonderfully with dogs of all sizes, enjoys meeting new people, and is happy to share attention without being pushy. In short, she's the kind of dog who fits in just about anywhere.

This happy little lady has a moderate energy level and would love a home that includes daily walks, adventures, and plenty of cuddle time. Whether you're looking for a loyal sidekick, a family companion, or a new addition to your existing pack, Pancake is ready to be your perfect co-pilot. While she and Sierra aren't bonded, they get along beautifully and could certainly be adopted together for double the fun.

Manta’s story is one we wish we didn’t see so often in rescue.

Six years ago, Manta was adopted as an adorable puppy. She spent her days playing frisbee, going to the beach, and being a beloved family companion. But as life changed and a new baby joined the family, there was less and less time for Manta. Eventually, she was returned to The Barking Lot.

We always welcome our alumni back, but it’s hard not to imagine how confusing that must be for a dog who only knew one home for six years.

When Manta first arrived back at TBL, she was understandably overwhelmed and unsure. But it didn’t take long for her sweet personality to reappear. Beneath her slightly shy exterior is a loving, affectionate, playful girl who enjoys other dogs and is highly food motivated—a great way to earn her trust and make her smile.

At six years old, Manta comes with all the benefits of an adult dog:

🐾 Friendly with other dogs
🐾 Loves adventures and outdoor activities

Manta has already joined volunteers on several hikes and has been an absolute star. She would thrive in an active home that enjoys getting outside, exploring new places, and including a canine companion in the fun. And when the adventure is over, she’s happy to relax quietly by your side.

Manta is truly stunning. Her sleek coat, athletic build, and elegant greyhound-like features turn heads everywhere she goes. But it's her gentle nature and soulful eyes that will capture your heart.

After losing the only home she has ever known, Manta deserves a family committed to loving her for the rest of her life.

How is this girl still waiting for her family?

Meet Phoenix, a stunning rescue from our partner, Soi Dog Foundation in Thailand. With her striking crystal blue eye, unique ridge along her back, and compact 39-pound frame, Phoenix turns heads everywhere she goes. We see Husky, Thai Ridgeback, and maybe even a little Aussie in this beautiful mix—but whatever her breed makeup, she's 100% special.

Just shy of her third birthday, Phoenix has quickly become a volunteer favorite at The Barking Lot. She’s confident, friendly, and incredibly easy to spend time with. Whether she's joining volunteers on hiking adventures, hanging out in her playgroup, or meeting new people, Phoenix consistently shows what a well-rounded dog she is.

✨ Today’s : Mizani! ✨

We're closing out the week with the adorable Mizani! This handsome little low-rider is a recent rescue from Barstow, where he was at risk of euthanasia. At just about 10 months old, we believe he's a Dachshund/Terrier mix, and he's already winning hearts everywhere he goes.

Mizani gets along wonderfully with other dogs. Because he's not the most dominant pup, we've been thoughtful about matching him with the right playgroup, and it's paid off! His current friends are all about playing, chasing, and having fun, and Mizani fits right in. He loves wrestling with his buddies almost as much as he loves soaking up attention from people.

At around 16 pounds, Mizani is likely fully grown—or very close to it. He's the perfect size: small enough to take almost anywhere, but sturdy enough for neighborhood walks, weekend adventures, and easy hikes. He has a nice medium energy level and seems eager to learn. While he'll still need the typical training and guidance that comes with a young dog, he's highly motivated by praise and treats, which should make him a quick study.

Mizani would likely thrive in a home with another playful dog, but his friendly nature and easygoing personality should also make him a wonderful family companion.

Can we all take a moment to appreciate how adorable Nickel is? Between his ears that seem to point in every direction and his adorable cow-spotted coat, this little guy is off the charts on the cuteness scale. But Nickel is much more than a handsome face—he has the sweetest, happiest personality to match.

At just 12 weeks old, Nickel is expected to grow into a medium-sized dog, around 30–40 pounds. While we're not exactly sure what breeds make up this unique pup, he could be a pocket pittie, a pointer mix, or something entirely his own. Whatever his breed, one thing is certain: he's going to be a stunning dog.

Like any young puppy, Nickel will need the training, patience, and guidance that come with welcoming a baby dog into your home. He's affectionate, playful, well-balanced, and eager to please, making him a great fit for many different types of families. He'll thrive with plenty of exercise, socialization, and positive reinforcement. A home with another friendly dog or opportunities for regular playdates would be a huge plus!

Nickel would make a wonderful family companion and should do well with respectful children who understand his young age and small size. He's the perfect mix of sweet, silly, and affectionate—and he's guaranteed to bring endless smiles, laughter, and puppy kisses.

Some dogs just need a little time to bloom. 🌸

When Azalea first arrived at The Barking Lot from Imperial County, she was shy and unsure of the world around her. Since then, she's been living in a foster home with our director, where she's had the chance to decompress, settle in, and discover that life can be pretty wonderful.

And wow, has she blossomed.

Now 3 years old, Azalea is a happy, confident little dog with an adorable low-rider body and a personality that's impossible not to love. We believe she's a Border Terrier/Jack Russell mix, though there's clearly something else mixed in there that gifted her those extra-cute short legs.

One thing is certain: Azalea absolutely loves other dogs. She thrives in the company of canine friends and would do best in a home with another dog (or two!) to help her continue building confidence and enjoying life. In her foster home, she lives with dogs of all sizes and personalities and gets along beautifully with everyone.

Azalea is playful, fun, and easygoing. She enjoys attention and affection but isn't clingy or demanding. She's perfectly content hanging out with her people, joining in on family activities, and then entertaining herself when needed.

While she's probably not built to be your next marathon training partner, she'd happily join you for neighborhood walks, weekend adventures, and family hikes. She'd also do well in an apartment as long as she's getting the exercise and enrichment she needs.

If you're looking for a sweet, social, well-rounded dog who has already done the hard work of coming out of her shell, Azalea may be the perfect addition to your family.

Looking for a sweet, gentle little companion with soulful eyes and a heart full of love? Meet Matrix. This adorable scruffy boy may be shy at first, but give him a little time and patience and you’ll discover one of the sweetest dogs around.

Matrix is about 3 years old, around 10 lbs, and recently rescued from the overcrowded Barstow shelter, where so many wonderful, highly adoptable dogs are at risk simply because there isn’t enough space. We’re so grateful Matrix now has a safe place to wait for the forever home he deserves.

When Matrix first arrived, he was understandably timid, but every day he grows a little braver. Now he happily comes up to volunteers for pets and affection, and his gentle personality is starting to shine. He does great in a playgroup with other small dogs and would thrive in a calm, quieter home where he can continue building confidence at his own pace.

Because of his small size, Matrix doesn’t need a ton of exercise, but he’d love leisurely walks around the neighborhood or tagging along for daily adventures. He’d do well as an only dog or with another canine companion.

And honestly… those eyes? Completely unforgettable. 💛
