When you donate to Townspeople, you help more people recover their confidence as they regain stable housing. Please give today! tinyurl.com/SupportTownspeople

"After moving into the apartment, I could experience the respect of having my own place after living in someone else’s place for so long. Townspeople have given me my life back," shares our former client who, upon regaining housing, was able to pursue a degree and teacher's license, and became a teaching assistant. "I lived on Townspeople’s property for five years, and I highly thank them for allowing me to become a great success story. My life today has allowed me to grow and become independent."

Donations to Townspeople help support:

🏡 Maintenance of the affordable housing properties we own and operate.

🏡 Rental assistance to hundreds of households.

🏡 Supportive services including case management, crisis intervention, care coordination, housing navigation, and resource connections.

🏡 Expanding the impact of the San Diego Shared Housing Collaborative.

Please help us continue our work. Donate today! tinyurl.com/SupportTownspeople

In 2025, one thing became clear: shared housing works.

As housing costs continue to outpace income, Townspeople stayed focused on what moves people indoors... practical solutions, strong partnerships, and persistence. We housed more people, strengthened what works, and continued pushing toward a system where housing is more accessible, immediate, and sustainable.

Help us build on this momentum through 2026! Join us in supporting unhoused San Diegans achieve their goals of finding a home and building community. Donate today at townspeople.org on a monthly or one-time basis!

Established in 2014 by Let's Kick ASS Aids Survivors, HIV Long-Term Survivors Awareness Day (HLTSAD) is recognized annually on June 5 to coincide with the anniversary of the first official reporting of what became known as the AIDS epidemic on June 5, 1981.

Decades later, the narrative of HIV has evolved from a period of fear and stigma to one of hope and progress. Today, nearly 50% of people with HIV in the United States are over the age of 50.

Per Let's Kick ASS Aids Survivors, HIV Long-Term Survivors (HLTS) represent a diverse group of people, including:

💖 People diagnosed with HIV *before* the advent of Highly Active Antiretroviral Therapy (HAART) in 1996. These survivors currently make up about 25% of the estimated 1.2 million people living with HIV and AIDS.

🌼 People who acquired HIV at birth or as young children, also known as lifetime survivors of HIV or Dandelions.

Townspeople joins Let's Kick ASS Aids Survivors in continuing to observe HLTSAD and in their priorities of demanding universal treatment access to help end the HIV epidemic and to culturally-aware mental health care, fighting discrimination and invisibility against older adults living with HIV/AIDS, and to advocating ways to overcome the challenges of poverty and economic insecurity, including housing insecurity and homelessness.

For more information about HLSTAD and ways you can support Let's Kick ASS Aids Survivors, visit www.hltsad.org and follow on Instagram.

Townspeople is proud of what we achieved in 2025, our 41st year of providing care, resources, and support to San Diego's most vulnerable communities.

In 2025, we continued to scale what works, respond to changing needs, and invest in the people and programs that move housing from idea to reality. And the positive impact of our actions came through—from maintaining a 92% supportive housing stability rate, to achieving a 95% participant satisfaction rate amongst the nearly 600 people we served last year.

Our work is possible in large part to our committed staff and board, and steadfast support in the community!

HIV stigma stems from misinformation about HIV and negatively impacts everyone’s health, regardless of a person’s HIV status. Let's normalize talking about testing and HIV, and be in the habit of informing people about the ways HIV is NOT transmitted.

You won't get HIV by ⬇️

❌ sitting near someone who has HIV.

❌ eating food prepared by someone who has HIV.

❌ having s*x with someone with an undetectable viral load.

Townspeople is proud to endorse Measure A, the Homes for San Diego initiative appearing on next month’s ballot for City of San Diego voters.

As a supporter of Townspeople, you’ve probably heard us say homelessness is not separate from the housing affordability crisis. It doesn’t make sense to talk about homelessness without also talking about the cost and availability of housing.

Over the past year, Townspeople has given public comment, joined coalition advocacy efforts, and supported bringing this measure to voters because we believe San Diego needs to stop treating the housing crisis like a temporary emergency and start investing in long-term solutions.

Measure A is one attempt to address that reality locally. The measure would establish a tax on certain vacant non-primary residential properties, with revenue flowing to the City’s General Fund and the potential to support housing and community priorities. Supporters also hope the measure will encourage more homes to actually function as homes in the middle of the housing crisis.

No single measure is going to solve housing affordability or homelessness on its own. But continuing to do the same thing while expecting different results clearly is not working either.

At Townspeople, we continue to recognize May 19 as National AANHPI HIV/AIDS Awareness Day (NAPIHAAD)!

According to 2021 data shared by AIDSVu in 2024, Asian people had the lowest testing rates among all races/ethnicities. Help raise awareness about the importance of HIV/AIDS testing and therapies in Asian and Pacific Islander communities by being intentional and thoughtful in how we talk about people, health, and experiences.
