📍San Diego | Orange County Based in San Diego, Climate Action Campaign is committed to achieving a 100% clean energy future through local climate action plans and climate protection policies. After passing the city of San Diego's groundbreaking and legally binding Climate Plan, we have also secured five other Climate Plans with a commitment to 100%

clean energy. We believe that climate action can only be accomplished when the community speaks as one voice. We are creating a powerful base of support for climate protection by enlisting community leaders, grassroots organizations, students, small business owners, and policymakers. We are uniting coalitions to build a critical mass of support for safeguarding our quality of life for future generations. Together, we will develop and implement strong climate policies in the San Diego region and beyond. After demonstrating success at the local level, we will act as a resource for advocates and legislators who want to enact climate protection policies that will help solve the climate crisis. We will use victories in our community as a model for successful climate action in other regions. We aim to make climate action a number one priority for policymakers everywhere until we achieve our mission: to stop climate change.

Last week, Anthony Dang took the dais at the City of San Diego's Environment Committee, advocating for a critical package of state legislation that lowers energy bills and holds utilities accountable. 👏

They were on board! The committee voted to recommend to the City Council a resolution formalizing support for these state bills.

In the same week, Ayn Craciun delivered a similar presentation to Laguna Beach's Environmental Sustainability Committee 🙌

We're beyond proud of Anthony and Ayn. Behind the scenes, getting these resolutions on official city agendas takes a mountain of effort. The bottom line: We're diving headfirst into real rate relief solutions, and we refuse to accept anything less than lower energy bills and corporate utility accountability for our communities.

Yet, San Diego’s Air Pollution Control District just sided with big polluters over us.

Last week, they voted to block the development of a rule that would have finally held polluters like industrial warehouses responsible for the toxic air they pump into our neighborhoods.

While this outcome is deeply frustrating, we want to thank Supervisor Paloma Aguirre, Doctor Anne Marie Birkbeck-Garica, Georgette Gomez, and Paula Stigler Granados for voting to move this rule forward.

We will continue the fight to stop pollution at its source and hold industrial polluters accountable. We deserve clean air! ✊

On May 14th, during a special meeting, the Air Pollution Control District Governing Board voted (5-4) against developing a clean air rule - indirect source rule (ISR) - to reduce cancer-causing pollution from warehouses and distribution centers in San Diego.

Polluting industry came out in strong opposition to the clean air ISR. But community and allies also mobilized, sending over 400 emails in support of the ISR, holding a rally at the county building ahead of the vote, and testifying in support at the meeting.

While the motion ultimately failed, we thank Supervisor Paloma Aguirre, Doctor Anne Marie Birkbeck-Garcia, Georgette Gomez, and Paula Stigler Granados for voting to move the ISR process forward.

Board members who sided with polluters and voted no

San Diego Mayor Todd Gloria — No
National City Councilmember Marcus Bush — No
Santee Councilmember Laura Koval — No
Coronado Mayor John Duncan — No
Escondido Councilmember Judy Fitzgerald — No

Supervisor Terra Lawson-Remer and San Diego Councilmember Jennifer Campbell were absent from the meeting and did not vote.

Despite the setback, our community remains resilient and ready to continue fighting for a San Diego where all people live, work, and play in a clean and safe environment.

San Diego will retain incentive programs to persuade polluters to reduce emissions rather than regulate warehouses and distribution centers.
