SIBSHOPS is a national acclaimed program that provides peer support within a recreational environment for children who have a sibling with special needs.
A SIB = This is the family member who will have the longest-lasting relationship with a person who has a disability.
For our directors and our facilitators who run them, SIBSHOPS are evidence of their loving concern for SIBS, the sibling with a brother/sister with special health and developmental needs. For the kids who attend them, SIBSHOPS are lively, pedal-to-the-metal events where they will:
โข Talk about the good and not-so-good parts of having a sib with special needs with others who โget itโ โข Meet other sibs (sometimes for the first time) โข Have fun learning to surf, bodyboard, water safety and fun toys โข Play some great beach based games โข Learn how other brother and sisters handle sticky situations and challenges that sometimes faced by these brothers and sisters โข Laugh; โข and Have some more fun!
Note, all our facilitators on the beach are sibs themselves! We are a locally run non-profit organization, so any support is always appreciated and will go back into the program to help as many SIBS as possible.
The SIBSHOP curriculum is used throughout the United States and Canada and in Japan, New Zealand, Argentina, Iceland, Ireland, England, Italy, and Turkey.
