Communities In Schools (CIS) believes that caring, one-on-one relationships between adults and young people make the crucial difference.

CIS is a nonprofit organization made up of 27 local Texas affiliates that support students at-risk of dropping out by surrounding them with a community of support to ensure they stay in school and achieve in life. Programs don't change kids - relationships do. CIS creates comprehensive, locally controlled and owned support systems around schools. CIS locates and coordinates community resources, dedicated volunteers, and agencies to serve in partnership with the public schools, both during the day and after school, thereby making the work of our educators much more effective. Coordination of effort and accountability for results are essential aspects of the service CIS provides - because, too often, well-meaning programs are not focused on overall school objectives. CIS ensures that the work of these outside agencies and volunteers is interconnected and integrated to provide the support schools need the most.

❤️🤍 RED RIBBON WEEK AT VMA! 🤍❤️

CIS Site Coordinator Ms. Lopez, in collaboration with our school counselors, Mrs. Vasquez & Mrs. Lopez, hosted a Red Ribbon Pledge at Veterans Memorial Academy during both lunch periods! ❤️✍️

Our students came together to sign the pledge, show their commitment to making healthy choices, and take a stand against bullying and drug use. Together, we are building a safer, healthier, and more positive school community! 💪✨

Thank you to our students, counselors, and everyone who helped make this initiative a success!

Together, we stand strong against bullying and drugs! ❤️🤍

Cofee Talks/Parent Platicas
Dr. Lerma led an engaging activity that invited us to explore different parenting styles and reflect on our cultural backgrounds, guiding principles, and family values have shaped who we are today and how we raise our children.

Through meaningful conversations and shared experiences, we reflected on the traditions we carry forward, the lessons we learned growing up, and the values we hope to pass on to the next generation.

Thank you, Dr. Lerma, for guiding this thoughtful conversation, and thank you to our participating parents for sharing your perspectives and helping create a welcoming space for connection and learning. Your voices make these conversations meaningful! 💛
