Please join us in wishing two of our San Benito firefighters safe travels as they head to New Braunfels for advanced training with Texas A&M Engineering Extension Service (TEEX). 🙏🚒🛣️ Keep them in your thoughts and prayers as they make the long trip and represent our city with pride. We pray for safe travels, a great learning experience, and a safe return home. 💙

This opportunity is an important step forward for our department, and when they return, they’ll bring back valuable knowledge to share with the rest of our firefighters. 📚🔥 We’re confident they will represent San Benito with professionalism and excellence every step of the way. 👊🚨

The San Benito Firefighters Association is proud to jointly sponsor this opportunity, and we’re grateful for a community that stands firmly behind its firefighters. 🙌 Because of your support, we can continue sending members to advanced training and building a safer, more prepared San Benito. We can’t wait to share the photos 📸, hear what they’ve learned, and watch them showcase the best of San Benito Fire. 🔥🚒

❄️ FREEZE SAFETY: STAY WARM — DON’T GET HURT ❄️

Tips from your local San Benito firefighters!

Cold weather can be dangerous if you try to heat your home the wrong way. Please follow these safety tips to protect your family and your home during the freeze.

🔥 Heating Safety
• Never use ovens, stovetops, grills, or outdoor heaters to heat your home.
• Keep space heaters at least 3 feet away from anything that can burn (curtains, bedding, furniture).
• Turn space heaters off when you leave the room or go to sleep.
• Only use heaters with automatic shut-off features and plug them directly into the wall—no extension cords.

🚨 Carbon Monoxide Safety
• Never run generators, grills, or propane heaters indoors or in garages.
• Never run your vehicle in a closed garage, even for a short time.
• Make sure carbon monoxide alarms are working on every level of your home.
• If your CO alarm sounds, get outside immediately and call 911.

🕯️ Candle & Open Flame Safety
• Avoid candles if possible. Use flashlights or battery-powered lights instead.
• Never leave candles unattended.
• Keep candles away from kids, pets, and anything flammable.

💧 Pipes & Water
• Drip faucets during extreme cold to help prevent frozen pipes.
• Open cabinet doors under sinks to allow warm air to circulate.
• If a pipe bursts, shut off your water immediately and call for help.

🫁 Oxygen-Dependent Residents
• If you rely on medical oxygen, do NOT depend solely on electrically powered oxygen machines.
• Power outages are possible during freezes.
• Make sure you have extra oxygen tanks on hand and that they are easily accessible.
• Keep tanks secured upright and away from heat sources or open flames.
• If you have concerns about your oxygen supply, plan ahead and contact your provider before the freeze.

🧤 Stay Warm the Safe Way
• Dress in layers instead of relying on unsafe heat sources.
• Check on elderly neighbors, family, and anyone without reliable heat.
• If you need a warm place, seek out warming centers or family/friends—don’t risk a fire.

📞 When in Doubt

If something doesn’t feel safe—it probably isn’t. Fires and carbon monoxide emergencies increase during freezes, and we’d rather answer questions than respond to an emergency.

Stay warm. Stay safe. We’ve got your back. 🔥

🔥 THANK YOU, SAN BENITO! 🔥
Backdraft Scramble Golf Tournament – Appreciation Post

Yesterday was an incredible day for our first-ever Backdraft Scramble Golf Tournament, and on behalf of the San Benito Professional Firefighters Association Local 4097, we want to thank every single person who came out — whether you golfed, visited the booths, supported our sponsors, or simply showed love for our firefighters. ❤️⛳️🚒

We also want to give a very special thank you to our association members and firefighters who volunteered their time, as well as the friends, vendors, and local businesses who came out to set up booths and help us throughout the day. We truly couldn’t have asked for a better outcome, even with the few obstacles we faced in the morning.

We had a lot of fun and the event turned out amazing, but we do want to address a couple things from the day. The morning got off to a rocky and rushed start, and we didn’t get to say everything we wanted to say before tee-off. The ending of the tournament was equally rushed, and we want to sincerely apologize for that. This was a brand-new experience for us, and we definitely hit some learning curves — but we’re already excited for next year because it will be bigger, smoother, and even better. Our goal for 2026 is to rent out the entire course to avoid the little hiccups we ran into this time.

Thank you all again for your patience, your support, and your energy. We can’t wait to see everyone back out there next year playing golf with us and for us.

🎟️ Door Prize Giveaway & Raffle Update

Because of the tight schedule, the raffle portion of the tournament was rushed as well. Several door prizes were given out to the registered golfers who checked in that morning, and those winners were selected at random. These prizes came from several amazing local businesses that helped sponsor our giveaway.

We also held the 20-Bottle Liquor & Beach Wagon Raffle, and as advertised, you did not need to be present to win. One lucky winner was drawn and contacted, and we will be arranging pickup/drop-off of their prize.

🏆 Tournament Winners

Huge congratulations to our top 3 teams!

🥇 1st Place – Bridgestone Southern Tire Mart
Jesus Bocanegra, Giovanni Bocanegra, Hugo Garcia, Luis Cerrillo
Prize: $1,000

🥈 2nd Place – Boswell Elliff Ford
Juan Perez, Randy Taylor, Francisco Gomez, Mario Flores
Prize: $750

🥉 3rd Place – Bogey Bois
Kevin Quintanilla, Felix Quintanilla, Mike Reyna, Cristian Zuniga
Prize: $500

Amazing job to all teams — thank you for competing and supporting our firefighters!

🤝 To Our Sponsors, Vendors & Volunteers

We can’t thank you enough.
Your support, time, and willingness to show up made this tournament possible. From the sponsors who backed us, to the vendors who set up booths, to the volunteers who kept everything moving — we appreciate every one of you. We truly couldn’t have done this without you.

❤️ What’s Next?

We’re extremely proud of how our first tournament turned out, and even more grateful for the community that showed up for us. Stay tuned — we have several local community efforts coming up throughout San Benito before December ends, and we can’t wait to continue serving our community together.

Thank you again, San Benito.
