🇺🇸 Happy Independence Day from the San Benito Professional Firefighters Association! 🇺🇸

Today, we celebrate the birth of our nation and the freedoms we enjoy thanks to the courage and sacrifice of those who came before us. This Independence Day is especially significant as we commemorate 250 years of American independence—a milestone honoring our nation’s history, resilience, and the generations who have proudly served and protected it.

🚒 Firefighter Safety Reminders:
🎆 Leave fireworks to professional displays whenever possible.
💧 Keep a water hose or bucket of water nearby if using legal fireworks.
🧨 Never relight a firework that fails to ignite.
👧 Keep children and pets a safe distance away from fireworks.
🍺 Never mix alcohol with fireworks.
🔥 Dispose of used fireworks by soaking them in water before throwing them away.
☎️ In an emergency, call 911 immediately.

Our crews are proud to serve this community every day, including holidays. While many of us will be celebrating with our families, others will be standing by, ready to respond whenever we’re needed.

⚠️ WEATHER ALERT: POTENTIAL FLASH FLOODING & SEVERE THUNDERSTORMS ⚠️

The San Benito Professional Firefighters Association would like to remind our community to stay weather aware as severe thunderstorms and the potential for significant flash flooding are forecasted to impact our area later tonight.

Many of us remember the recent flooding event that caught our community by surprise. During that incident, San Benito firefighters worked throughout the night performing numerous rescues and emergency responses. While we are always prepared to answer the call, severe weather events can quickly overwhelm emergency resources due to the high volume of calls for service.

🚨 If you live in a neighborhood that is known to flood or has flooded in the past, begin preparing NOW.

• Have a plan to move to higher ground if conditions begin to deteriorate.
• Gather important medications, documents, and essential items.
• Charge your phones and electronic devices.
• Monitor weather conditions closely.

If you believe you may need to evacuate, DO NOT WAIT until water is entering your home or surrounding your vehicle. Leaving early is always safer than waiting until escape routes become impassable.

🌊 FLASH FLOODING IS EXTREMELY DANGEROUS

Floodwaters are often deeper and moving faster than they appear. A vehicle can be swept away in surprisingly little water, and people can easily lose their footing in moving water. Hidden dangers such as open manholes, storm drains, debris, and strong currents can quickly turn a bad situation into a life-threatening emergency.

Remember:

🚗 TURN AROUND, DON’T DROWN.

Never drive through flooded roadways. No destination is worth risking your life or the lives of your loved ones.

If you call 911 during a major flooding event, please understand that emergency crews may be responding to multiple incidents simultaneously. We will respond as quickly and safely as possible, but response times may be longer than normal due to the volume of emergencies.

For the latest weather and emergency information for San Benito, follow the City of San Benito page and the San Benito Fire Department page for updates as conditions develop throughout the night.

We hope this storm passes with minimal impact and that no rescues are needed. However, if the worst happens, know that your San Benito firefighters will be standing ready, prepared, and committed to serving our community.

🚧 ROAD CLOSED MEANS ROAD CLOSED 🚧

We get this question all the time: “Can I drive through?”

If you see barricades, Texas Department of Public Safety State Troopers, Texas Department of Transportation vehicles, or any emergency vehicle blocking a roadway, the answer is NO.

Those closures are in place for a reason—flooding, hazardous road conditions, crashes, or other dangers that may not be visible from where you’re standing‼️

⚠️ Driving around barricades puts you, your passengers, and first responders at risk.

If the road is closed, turn around and find an alternate route.

Respect the barricades. Respect the closure. Arrive home safely.

Heavy rainfall is anticipated across our area, which may lead to flash flooding and rapidly changing road conditions. Even a small amount of moving water can sweep away a vehicle.

🚗 Turn Around, Don’t Drown!

* Do not attempt to walk through moving water.
* Be alert for road closures and barricades.
* Allow extra travel time and avoid unnecessary travel during heavy rain.
* Monitor local weather forecasts and emergency notifications.
