Sigma Gamma Rho Sorority, Inc. was organized on November 12, 1922 in Indianapolis, Indiana by seven school teachers: Mary Lou Allison Little, Dorothy Hanley Whiteside, Vivian White Marbury, Nannie Mae Gahn Johnson, Hattie Mae Dulin Redford, Bessie M. Downey Martin and Cubena McClure. The group became an incorporated national collegiate sorority on December 30, 1929, when a charter was granted to A
lpha chapter at Butler University. The Lambda Epsilon Sigma Alumnae Chapter (SalisburySGRho) was chartered June 5, 2010 by five Sorority members. The chapter serves the Salisbury/Rowan County community and surrounding counties. The undergraduate chapter at a Livingstone College (Mu Tau) is sponsored by the alumnae chapter along with the Rhoer Youth Affiliate Group and the Philo Auxilary Group.
