Sigma Gamma Rho Sorority, Inc. was organized on November 12, 1922 in Indianapolis, Indiana by seven school teachers: Mary Lou Allison Little, Dorothy Hanley Whiteside, Vivian White Marbury, Nannie Mae Gahn Johnson, Hattie Mae Dulin Redford, Bessie M. Downey Martin and Cubena McClure. The group became an incorporated national collegiate sorority on December 30, 1929, when a charter was granted to A

lpha chapter at Butler University. The Lambda Epsilon Sigma Alumnae Chapter (SalisburySGRho) was chartered June 5, 2010 by five Sorority members. The chapter serves the Salisbury/Rowan County community and surrounding counties. The undergraduate chapter at a Livingstone College (Mu Tau) is sponsored by the alumnae chapter along with the Rhoer Youth Affiliate Group and the Philo Auxilary Group.

The Lambda Epsilon Sigma Alumnae Chapter of Sigma Gamma Rho Sorority, Inc. is gearing up to equip the students of Essie Academy (Grades 6th - 8th) for success this school year, and we need YOUR help! 💙💛

Greetings from our Basileus:

Greetings Salisbury SGRho Family and Friends!

I am humbled to once again lead the chapter for the 2026-2028 administrative term. I have witnessed the chapter grow over the years. As we celebrate 16 years of service to the Salisbury/Rowan community, it is my vision to expand the chapter's reach through intentional partnerships with other Divine Nine organizations as well as civic, social, educational and faith-based groups rooted in purposed service for the betterment and improvement of the community - near and far.
