🏛️ A Building with a Story

Long before it became the future home of the HUB, the Oestreicher Building was part of the heartbeat of downtown Salisbury.

The building once housed Oestreicher’s, a well-known department store and gathering place that represented commerce, connection, and growth in downtown Salisbury.

Today, that same historic space is being given a new purpose.

the HUB is transforming the Oestreicher Building into a center where nonprofits, educators, community leaders, and organizations can come together to collaborate, share resources, and strengthen Rowan County.

🎨 A Historic Building Through the Eyes of a Local Artist!

The historic Oestreicher Building has been part of downtown Salisbury's story for generations, and we're excited to see it captured in such a special way!

Local artist Cheryl Goins has created a beautiful painting of the HUB, showcasing a building that holds so much history and an exciting future.

As we continue transforming this historic space into a Center for Collaboration, we're reminded that the HUB is about more than renovations. It's about preserving a piece of our community's history while creating new opportunities for connection, creativity, and collaboration.

💜 The vision for the HUB is becoming a reality.

the HUB is designed to bring nonprofits, educators, artists, businesses, and community leaders together in one shared space where collaboration can happen every day.

By sharing meeting spaces, technology, resources, and other essential services, organizations can reduce overhead and focus more of their time and funding on serving Rowan County.

Every step forward brings us closer to creating a place built around connection, innovation, and community impact.

🏛️ Another Step Forward for the HUB!

We're excited to share that the HUB has been approved for an Innes Street Improvement District Grant through the City of Salisbury!

The grant will cover 50% of eligible project costs, up to $5,000, supporting continued improvements to the historic Oestreicher Building in downtown Salisbury.

Every step forward brings us closer to creating a welcoming, collaborative space where local nonprofits can work together, share resources, and better serve our community.

A special thank you to the City of Salisbury and the Community Appearance Commission for recognizing the importance of this project and investing in the future of our downtown.

We're excited to see this historic building continue to take shape! 💜

💜 A special moment at the HUB.

Recently, Mary Ponds visited the HUB with the Salisbury Rowan Community Foundation and had the opportunity to see the future home of the Mary Ponds Playroom for herself.

The room was named in her honor at Smart Start Rowan’s Annual Meeting last year, recognizing Mary’s years of dedication to education and her lasting impact on Smart Start and the children and families of Rowan County.

Seeing her stand in the very space that will carry her name made the vision feel even more meaningful. We are honored that Mary’s legacy will continue to be part of the HUB for years to come.

Applications are now open for the Leadership Development Program for Social Impact (LDP-SI), presented by Catawba College's Ketner School of Business in partnership with Rowan County United Way and hosted in collaboration with the HUB.
Designed for emerging leaders across nonprofit, government, education, healthcare, business, and community organizations, LDP-SI combines practical leadership development, social entrepreneurship, collaboration, innovation, and real-world problem-solving.

📅 October 14, 2026 – February 10, 2027
💡 11 sessions with both in-person and virtual learning
💲 $750 per participant
