Cadet Lieutenant Colonel Chase Perico is Cadet Adjutant, 18th Training Group, Fort Riley, Kansas. In this role, he is responsible for ensuring that standards are met across squadrons and flights by being able to have a big picture view of the entire group. Colonel Perico first joined Civil Air Patrol in February 2022, joining the Heartland Cadet Squadron, Lenexa, Kansas. He attended the 2022 Missouri Wing Summer Encampment for his student encampment. He has gone on to staff several encampments, including Missouri Wing in 2023, Tennessee Wing in 2024, Joint Dakota Wing in 2025, and Kansas Wing in 2022, 2024, and 2025, where he most recently served as 38th Squadron Commander, 17th Training Group. Colonel Perico attended the National Emergency Services Academy in 2023, and served at National Blue Beret in 2025 and 2026. He currently serves as Cadet Commander of the Heartland Cadet Squadron. Outside of Civil Air Patrol, he is a high school student, Kansas 4-H Smallbore R***e State Champion, and is applying to the United States Naval Academy.

Cadet Captain Cortes, is the deputy commander for operations for Kansas 26-27. His role is overseeing cadet operations staff and ensuring all training is conducted up to standard and making sure students leave better than they started. He joined Civil Air Patrol around 2023 at the Henderson Composite Squadron in Nevada, then transferred and helped recharter the Pahrump Valley Composite Squadron.
He has staffed several encampments since then. Served as Flight Sergeant at the Nevada Wing Silvers Edge in 2024, First Sergeant at the Kansas Wing Encampment in 2024–2025, and Flight Commander at Joint Dakota in 2025. He also went on to serve as Squadron Commander at the Kansas Wing Encampment for 2025–2026 and as ALC Cadet Commander for Joint Dakota in 2026. He also has goals of attending Civil Air Patrols Medical Orientation and Training School. Outside of CAP, C/Capt Cortes is a private pilot and a swim instructor for the City of Henderson.

Cadet Major Adrianna Arizona serves as the Deputy Commander for Support for the 18th Training Group at Fort Riley, Kansas. In this role, she oversees the encampment’s support departments and is responsible for ensuring they operate effectively, collaboratively, and in support of the overall encampment mission. She emphasizes the role of Support as a pillar of encampment success. Major Arizona joined Civil Air Patrol in July 2022 as a member of the Lee Bird Composite Squadron in North Platte, Nebraska, where she currently serves as Cadet Commander. After completing her student encampment, Major Arizona began serving on encampment staff and has since gained extensive experience in both operations and support roles. She has staffed the past three Kansas Wing Encampments, serving as Flight Sergeant, Flight Commander, and Squadron Commander. Outside of the Kansas Wing, she has served on staff at 9 additional encampments across three regions and seven wings. At her most recent encampment, she served as Cadet Deputy Commander for Operations. The upcoming Kansas Wing Encampment will mark Major Arizona’s 12th encampment, continuing her commitment to developing cadets and supporting the encampment mission's success.

Cadet Lieutenant Colonel Maddux Haar is Cadet Commander, 18th Training Group, Fort Riley, Kansas. In this role, he is responsible for the successful ex*****on of the 2026 Kansas Wing Winter Encampment and the training of its 108 students. Colonel Haar first joined Civil Air Patrol in November 2022, joining the Air Capital Composite Squadron, Wichita, Kansas. He was assigned to the 14th Kansas Wing Training Group for his student encampment, graduating on 4 January 2023. He has gone on to staff several encampments, including Missouri Wing in 2023, Oklahoma Wing in 2024 and 2025, and Kansas Wing in 2023, 2024, and 2025, where he most recently served as Cadet Deputy Commander for Operations, 17th Training Group. In October 2024, he was assigned as Cadet Commander, Air Capital Composite Squadron, a position he serves in today. During his tenure as Cadet Commander, Air Capital Composite Squadron has set local records for recruitment and created a system to fill key vacancies among the cadet staff in a structured manner, which has served to increase cadet retention. He concurrently serves as Chair, Kansas Wing Cadet Advisory Council. Outside of Civil Air Patrol, he is a high school student, a member of the Executive Board of the Kansas Soaring Association, and recently completed an assignment as a page in the United States Senate.

Kansas Wing 18th Training Group Encampment student registration is now open! Students will learn the basic skills of cadet life. Including, developing leadership skills, aerospace knowledge, career exploration, daily exercise, and how to live the core values. Students will get to have a truly unique learning experience and make lifelong friends.

The Civil Air Patrol Kansas Wing Conference brought together cadets and senior members representing squadrons from across the state. The conference included dedicated cadet and senior programming, with cadets also participating in Color Guard activities throughout the weekend.

The weekend included the Gala and Celebration Dinner, where Cadet Col Tate Maybie was presented with the Gen. Carl A. Spaatz Award, the highest achievement in Civil Air Patrol’s Cadet Program, by Col Eric Davis, Chris "Caveman" Brayman, and distinguished guest General Regina Aye.

The conference gave members from across Kansas a chance to learn, connect, and celebrate the accomplishments of our cadets and senior members.

Cadet Capt. Bailey Gray and Cadet Lt. Col. Maddux Haar represented Civil Air Patrol Kansas Wing at National Conference briefing the Civil Air Patrol Board of Governors through presentations highlighting the accomplishments, leadership opportunities, and experiences available to CAP cadets.

Both cadets demonstrated the depth of leadership and professional development that can come through the Civil Air Patrol cadet program. Their experiences include encampments, Cadet Advisory Council leadership, National Cadet Special Activities, cadet officer training, and service in leadership positions.

We are proud to see Kansas Wing cadets developing into confident leaders and representing Civil Air Patrol with professionalism and dedication.

Cadets interested in serving on staff are encouraged to submit their applications for upcoming cadet staff positions. This is a great opportunity to develop leadership skills, take on greater responsibility, mentor fellow cadets, and contribute to the success of the cadet program.

Congratulations 🎉 🎊 to Cadet Captain Zachary Pippert on earning the Earhart Award, a key milestone in the Civil Air Patrol Cadet Program.

The Earhart Award signifies completion of Phase III and reflects Cadet Capt Pippert’s commitment to leadership, aerospace education, character development, physical fitness, and service. Throughout his cadet career, he has demonstrated leadership by mentoring junior cadets, assisting with cadet activities, and representing Civil Air Patrol at National Legislative Day. He also exhibits admiral resiliency in the face of challenges, consistently maintaining a positive and determined attitude.

Earning both the Earhart Award and the grade of Cadet Captain recognizes his hard work, perseverance, and dedication. Congratulations on this well-earned achievement and continued commitment to developing future leaders.
