Happy 8 year gotcha day Tia Maria and Lula Bird.

They were rescued at about 4/5 weeks old from a barn before the cold set in. They were advertised for free on Craigslist list so I went and got them before they got into the wrong hands.

They were pretty sickly when we first got them and they initially tested positive for FIV. Later testing was negative.

These dilute calico girls grew into beautiful cats. 💚💚

Look who’s home! In her favourite spot, sucking on my hair.

Purdy Alice has a bladder infection. 🙄 She is on antibiotics. The f***l was clear, she’s eating, no vomiting so far, and is her normal demanding self. We love that! 🩷

Ollie is eating well. Continuing with his antibiotics and he will get his mouth checked again next week and run through his heart exam again to reassess and determine if the echocardiogram is the next step for him. 💙

Our lovely Purdy-Alice ended up at the vet this afternoon. She hasn’t been able to keep any food or water down, had a concerning bowel movement, and has been drinking considerably more water than usual.

After examining her, the doctor felt it would be best for Purdy-Alice to stay overnight so they could keep a close eye on her and run some tests. The doctor wants to rule out a urinary tract infection and diabetes, and he’ll also be running bloodwork to see if that gives us some answers.

Purdy-Alice is my affectionate, clingy little shadow. She is also my beloved pillow pet, usually snuggled up right beside my head at night. Tonight is going to feel incredibly strange without her there although I am sure that Linda will jump in her spot.

Please keep our precious Purdy-Alice in your thoughts and prayers tonight. 🩷

Ollie had a trip to see the vet today after he stopped eating yesterday, and I suspected something was going on with his mouth.

Unfortunately, Ollie has two troublesome teeth that ideally need to be extracted. However, during his examination, Dr. discovered a heart murmur and had difficulty detecting strong pulses in his back legs. He’s concerned that Ollie may have cardiomyopathy, a disease affecting the heart muscle.

Because of these findings, Dr. isn’t comfortable putting Ollie under anaesthesia until we have a better understanding of what’s happening with his heart.

For now, Ollie has been prescribed antibiotics to help settle his mouth and an appetite stimulant to encourage him to eat. If he isn’t eating by Wednesday or Thursday, he’ll need to go back sooner. Otherwise, we’ll have him reevaluated next week once the antibiotics have had time to work.

An echocardiogram (cardiac ultrasound) may also be needed to investigate his heart further.

Ollie is just 6½ years old. He came to us as a kitten after being advertised for free on Craigslist, he’s been loved and cherished ever since.

We’re hoping the antibiotics help him feel more comfortable and get him eating again while we figure out our next steps.
