Burnout in first responders doesn’t always look like falling apart.

Sometimes it looks like showing up anyway.
It looks like short tempers after sleepless nights, emotional exhaustion hidden behind dark humor, forgetting small things, feeling numb to calls that used to hurt, and carrying the weight of everyone else’s emergencies while ignoring your own.
We are trained to push through pain, but constantly surviving isn’t the same as living.

To every firefighter, EMT, paramedic, dispatcher, police officer, nurse, and responder silently running on empty: you are not weak for being tired. You are human. And you deserve support before you hit the breaking point.

CHECK ON YOUR PEOPLE. NORMALIZE ASKING FOR HELP. PROTECT YOUR MENTAL HEALTH THE SAME WAY YOU PROTECT OTHERS LIVES.

Today we remember and honor all who have given their lives for our freedom, especially St. Charles native, Jacob Frazier

The following is from the Fallen Heroes Project website -

ST CHARLES, IL, US
U. S. Air Force
SSG, 169th Air Support Operations Squadron, 182nd Airlift Wing
03/29/2003, AFGHANISTAN

Air National Guard Staff Sergeant Jacob Frazier was assigned to the 169th Air Support Operations Squadron, 182nd Airlift Wing, Peoria, Illinois. Frazier was in charge of calling in air support for troops on the ground. He and a Special Forces soldier were shot to death when four gunmen ambushed their convoy on motorcycles.

Jacob was a tenacious football player at Burlington Central High School so no one was surprised when he entered the military the year after his graduation. In 1997, he enlisted in the Illinois Air National Guard and was determined to excel. He was sent to Afghanistan in January to work with U.S. Army Special Forces. In just two months, he had participated in three reconnaissance missions to uncover information on people believed to be planning attacks on Americans. The missions led to the discovery of numerous documents and personnel and earned him a Purple Heart, Bronze Star and the Illinois Military Medal for Valor

Jacob was the caretaker in the family, the one who would step up. He watched out for his younger sister – once even giving her high school sophomore date an earful. He is greatly missed for his sense of humor, devotion to his family and his concern for the welfare of all whom he loved.

He will forever be respected for his ultimate sacrifice for the nation he loved and defended with honor. Before being deployed to Afghanistan, Jacob talked to his family and told them he would be seeing them again in about a year. It was always in his heart to be a good Special Ops soldier – he worked and trained very hard. When his family would ask him where he was he would say, “I’m out here chasing bad guys”.

Our hearts are full!!

Thank you to every single person who came out last night to celebrate the opening of Support Over Stigmas NEW HOME!! Seeing our community come together - first responders, veterans, active military, family, friends, and supporters - reminded us exactly why we started this mission in the first place.

To everyone who donated, volunteered, shared our mission, showed up or simply believed in us, thank you. You are helping create real change in a community that desperately needs it.

We’re just getting started 💛
