The Story Behind the Mission. Porkchop is a 9 year old mule who belongs to Ken "Trey" Wittekiend. They have deployed on search & rescue missions to North Carolina after Hurricane Helene, to Colorado and New Mexico on searches for missing people and last year, to Kerrville Texas following the devestating flooding. "Mules are better than horses in rough country because they are more sure-footed. He will do anything I ask of him. Through all the river crossings, ridgelines and mountains, he never took a wrong step. Porkchop and I are a team. We've pulled downed trees and wrecked cars out of some difficult spots."

Turns out, Porkchop is a big fan of blueberry granola bars and twizzlers. However, Ken assures me that he doesn't care for stawberry cookies at all.

Before the Medic Arrives

In Ukraine, the first challenge after a serious battlefield injury is often not getting someone to a hospital. It is keeping them alive long enough to get there.

Severe bleeding can become life-threatening in minutes. And because drones and ongoing fighting can delay evacuation, wounded soldiers may have to depend on themselves or the person beside them to stop the bleeding.

That is why a reliable tourniquet matters.

Sometimes one tourniquet is enough. Sometimes two or more are needed. But in those first critical minutes, having the right equipment within reach can make all the difference.

That is the simple idea behind Operation Lifeline: helping put proven, effective tourniquets into the hands of Ukrainian soldiers and medics who may need them when seconds matter most.

What is Heal-Corp?

Heal-Corp — Health, Education and Liberty Corp — is a nonprofit organization dedicated to bringing capable, practical help to people affected by disaster, emergency, and crisis.

Our team includes professionals with backgrounds in disaster medicine, trauma care, military field medicine, aviation, logistics, construction, search and rescue, and humanitarian response.

In the United States, Heal-Corp has responded to natural disasters and emergencies with personnel, medical support, essential supplies, training, divers, drones, animal teams, and other specialized resources.

Our Search and Rescue teams are built for rapid deployment. They include experienced disaster-response specialists, drone operators, animal handlers, and other trained personnel who can respond to missing-person incidents, natural disasters, and emergencies in challenging environments.

Heal-Corp also works internationally, providing medical aid, trauma-care training, humanitarian assistance, and other support in areas affected by conflict and natural disaster.

Our work has taken Heal-Corp teams and resources to communities in the United States and around the world, including Haiti, Jamaica, Ukraine, Turkey, and other locations where help was needed.

One of our current missions is Operation Lifeline, an effort to provide lifesaving tourniquets directly to Ukrainian medics and frontline personnel.
