Age Friendly S**o and Age Friendly Biddeford to Host Maine Tax Filing Workshop

S**O, Maine – Age Friendly S**o and Age Friendly Biddeford will host a free tax assistance workshop on Tuesday, June 24, at S**o City Hall to help older adults file their Maine 1040 Income Tax Return and access valuable state and local benefits.

Filing a Maine 1040 return is now more important than ever. Residents who do not file a Maine 1040 tax return will not receive the State of Maine's $300 Affordability Check. Many older adults, especially retirees who may not normally file a state tax return, could miss out on this benefit if they do not file.

Volunteers will be available to assist participants in completing and filing their Maine 1040 return free of charge. Attendees will also receive help applying for the Maine State Property Tax Fairness Credit, a program that can provide significant financial relief. Many renters are surprised to learn they may qualify for this credit, not just homeowners.

In addition, the City of S**o matches this credit, creating an opportunity for eligible residents to receive hundreds of dollars in combined benefits.

Doors will open at 11:30 am with the meal being served at about 12:00 pm at the S**o Elks Club. You can sign up for our luncheon by filling out the attached link or calling our Age Friendly Office at 710-5029 after 10:00 am on 6-12-2026.

We ask if you are ill to please stay home for the protection of all attending.

We have limited seating. If you sign up and your plans change, please call Age Friendly S**o at 207-710-5029 to allow us to give your place to someone else.

What a luncheon that Age Friendly S**o K5 put on yesterday! We had a full house , lots of laughter and fun conversations! Our special entertainment was Don Mills who sang throughout our entire meal and continued to sing until everyone was gone! A special thanks to Heather Charette of Maine Community Bank. Heather has been volunteering for the last four months and we have been very lucky to have her join us. She always has a smile on her face and will do anything that needs to be done! This morning, Age Friendly S**o’s Community Connector, Joseph Moreshead, gave a wonderful presentation at the Rotary Club of S**o Bay regarding all the programs that Age Friendly S**o does along with new programs we are getting involved with.
