Earlier this month, NFL Hall of Famer Cris Carter came to our headquarters to meet Lt. Col. David Harvey, the new leader of The Salvation Army Northern Division.
During their conversation, Carter shared his powerful backstory—including how The Salvation Army provided life-changing support for him and his family—and why giving back to the people of Minnesota is so important to him.

What a great weekend at our Parkview Service Center in North Minneapolis! On Saturday, this Salvation Army location hosted a Back-to-School Carnival, bringing families and the community together for a day of fun, connection, and giving back.
Families enjoyed carnival games and other activities while receiving backpacks and shoes to help get ready for the new school year.
Thank you to everyone who helped make this special event possible!

Did You Know?

The Salvation Army wasn't always called The Salvation Army.

When William and Catherine Booth began their work in London's East End in 1865, it was known as the Christian Mission. In 1878, the organization adopted the name The Salvation Army after William Booth saw the phrase “volunteer army” in a document and changed it to “Salvation Army.”

More than 150 years later, the name remains as we serve communities around the world.

Yesterday, we celebrated the 5th Annual Youth Appreciation Event on the Eastside of St. Paul.

Families came together for a day of community, connection, and celebration as we honored our young people and helped them prepare for the upcoming school year. Kids received free haircuts, backpacks, school supplies, hot meals, and more, while community organizations came together to provide valuable resources and support to families.

We’re proud to continue investing in our youth, supporting our families, and creating spaces where every child feels seen, valued, and appreciated.
