Rockwall Police Officers Association We are committed to those we serve and ensuring the safety for our citizens. The RPOA was founded in 1979 on integrity and morals which we still uphold today.

We are a liaison between administration and officers and are the voice of those we serve. In this day and age, despite the lack of funding and personnel, we do our very best to make sure you and your family feel safe and comfortable, so that while we patrol the streets, you sleep soundly. Statement from Dallas Police Association about Sgt Boykin’s passing

It is with profound sadness and a heavy heart that we announce the passing of Dallas Police Sergeant Joshua Boykin, who succumbed to the injuries he sustained in a small plane crash near Forney, Texas on May 16th.

Sergeant Boykin was off duty and returning from a personal trip with two fellow officers when the aircraft crashed. While the other two officers survived and continue to recover, Joshua fought courageously against his injuries before passing away this afternoon.

Today, the Dallas Police Department and the entire law enforcement community have lost a dedicated public servant, a respected leader, and a cherished friend. Sergeant Boykin devoted his life to serving and protecting the people of Dallas, and his impact on this department and the community he served will not be forgotten.

Our thoughts and prayers are with Joshua’s family, loved ones, friends, and fellow officers as they navigate this unimaginable loss. We ask the community to join us in praying for comfort, strength, and peace for all who knew and loved him.

In times like these, we are reminded that behind every badge is a person who is deeply loved by family, friends, and colleagues. Sergeant Boykin’s service, sacrifice, and commitment to others will leave a lasting legacy within the Dallas Police Department.

The Dallas Police Association stands ready to support Sergeant Boykin’s family and our members during this difficult time. We will honor his memory and remain committed to ensuring his loved ones are never forgotten.

Please join us for a Fundraiser Cookout benefiting Dallas Police Sergeant Joshua Boykin following a serious off-duty plane crash.

Sgt. Boykin is a 19-year veteran of the Dallas Police Department and is currently in critical condition facing extensive surgeries and a long road to recovery. We will never forget the sacrifices they made. Rockwall Officer Tracy Gaines passed away in 2020 with Covid. When the pandemic was new and we didn’t have resources or answers, he paid the price. His death left a hole in our department and community a mile wide that is still felt today. We will never forget him!

A little bit of history for your Friday.

Around 1900, Rockwall County officials gathered for a photograph in front of the native sandstone courthouse, capturing a moment of local government at work during a formative period in the county’s history.

Pictured in the front row are Will H. Vernon and county commissioner James W. Reese. In the second row are Jim Barringer and John T. Adams. The third row includes tax assessor J.K. Browning, county commissioner W.A. Bunch, George Truitt, B.F. Spafford, district court clerk G.W. McCafferty, and county clerk Joe Chisholm. In the fourth row are Jeff McCoulskey, county attorney Tom Ridgell, Sheriff Dan Anderson, county judge E.D. Foree, and Rascoe Payne.

At the time this photograph was taken, James W. Reese was just beginning his political career. He would go on to serve Rockwall County as both county attorney and county judge, and later represent the region in the Texas Legislature as a member of the Flotorial District.
