🏌️ What a day at the 17th Annual Chris Pearson Memorial Golf Tournament! 🏌️

We are so grateful to everyone who came out to make this year's tournament a success. A huge THANK YOU to all our players, generous sponsors, and supporters who continue to show up year after year for such a great cause.

This little guy parked himself at the entrance of our women’s center for quite some time yesterday. He never budged as our Development Director stooped down low for a closer look and some photos.

While researching the symbolism associated with lizards, we found the following interpretation, which reflects our work here at Samaritan Colony.

“Lizards symbolize recovery and renewal, particularly due to their ability to regenerate lost tails. This regenerative trait is often interpreted as a powerful metaphor for resilience and healing, suggesting that one can overcome challenges and emerge stronger. In various spiritual contexts, lizards are seen as reminders to embrace change and trust in one's capacity to navigate life's difficulties. Their adaptability in harsh environments further emphasizes their role as symbols of survival and transformation.”

Mark your calendar for September 19, 2026 — the Super Chevy Show is coming back to Rockingham Dragway, and we need a big turnout.

It's a full day of drag racing, a car show with more than 30 professionally judged classes, and a swap meet, all happening rain or shine on Saturday, with test and tune Friday night for anyone who wants to get an early start.

Here's the part that matters beyond the racetrack: $1 from every ticket sold will go straight to the Dragway Treatment Scholarship at Samaritan Colony. Our goal for the day is $3,500, and the only way we hit that number is if the seats are full. Samaritan Colony has said how much they appreciate the generous support the Rockingham Dragway community has shown, and this is our chance to back that up.

So bring the whole family and come watch some lightning-fast Chevys fly down the track. Every ticket helps someone get the treatment they need.

Last week, we received an email from a Samaritan Colony alumnus. Frank Welch recently celebrated two years of sobriety after completing our residential program at the end of June 2024. Frank sent us these words of gratitude and a few photos of his dog Oscar and himself. (And Y'all know we are all about the dogs!)

I've been thinking about all of you lately and wanted to take a moment to say thank you. The work you have done—and continue to do—changes lives. I will always be grateful for the support, encouragement, and hope that I received during one of the most important times in my life.

Since leaving Samaritan's Colony, I have continued working hard on my recovery and on becoming the man I want to be. Recovery has given me a second chance at life, and I try every day to honor that gift by continuing to grow into the person I am becoming.

To celebrate my recovery, I'm thinking about getting a tattoo that commemorates this journey. I put together several design ideas and attached them to this email. I would love it if you would take a look and vote for your favorite. It would mean a lot to me to have input from the people who helped make this milestone possible.

If it's ever possible, I would also love the opportunity to come visit Samaritan's Colony someday. Maybe you would even be willing to invite my best friend, Oscar, and me to come see everyone and visit. It would be wonderful to reconnect, see the program again, and personally thank the people who continue changing lives every day.

Thank you again for everything you've done for me and for so many others. Please know that your work truly matters, and I carry the lessons I learned there with me every day.

Since 2022, the Bradley Bailey Treatment Scholarship has raised over $28,000 — funding recovery for men who might not otherwise have had the chance.

The scholarship's namesake, Bradley Bailey, is a Samaritan Colony alumnus. Every year on her birthday in May, his mother, Mary Barbour, hosts a Facebook Fundraiser to grow the scholarship in his honor. This year, her campaign surpassed its $500 goal, raising $519.

"I am grateful for every dollar that is donated to help fund the Bradley Bailey Scholarship," Mary shared. "Funding the scholarship helps us pay forward the gift of recovery."

Bradley reflected on how far the scholarship has come:

"When we first started this Scholarship in 2022, I did not expect us to raise as much as we have so far. My hope has always been the same since 2022: that a man may receive my treatment scholarship, work the 12 steps, and then continue to take men through the steps. Even if only 1 man does that, it can make a huge impact. Ultimately, I just want my treatment scholarship to continue helping people, in hopes that they will one day help others. I'm grateful to all my family and friends who have contributed to the scholarship in the hopes of lives being saved."
