Public shows support for high-density moratorium

“Residents overwhelmingly urged the Bethel Town Board Wednesday night to adopt a moratorium on high-density residential development during a public hearing on Proposed Local Law No. 1 of 2026. The measure would temporarily halt new applications while the town updates its Comprehensive Plan and reviews possible zoning changes.”

🚨 We Need Your Voice! 🚨

The Town of Thompson has released the first draft of its Comprehensive Plan — the roadmap for land use and development over the next 10 years.

👉 Public comments are due by September 30, 2025

Why it matters:
This plan will shape how and where development happens. Future zoning changes must follow it. Right now, the draft does not do enough to protect open space, prevent suburban sprawl, or ensure sustainable growth.

💬 What you can say (copy/paste or make it your own):

“Place a moratorium on large developments and warehouses until the plan and zoning are updated. Don’t undermine the process.”

“Protect the Neversink Reservoir and watersheds.”

“Fix storm water and flooding problems along Routes 42/17 before allowing more development.”

“Match new projects to existing water and sewer capacity.”

“Clarify zoning for PUDs and warehouse/distribution centers.”
