If you've visited the Center this summer, you've undoubtedly noticed that the primary pond in the East Garden is in need of repair, and as we are a National Historic Site, replacing the pond liner is no small task! The good news is that our amazing were up to the challenge. They've diligently measured and catalogued every stone surrounding the pond, insuring Rose's original layout will be replaced exactly as intended. Thank you to the team! (Now it's time to move some heavy rocks...)

Meet Our Interns: Violet Reichel! 🌿

We're thrilled to introduce Violet, a rising junior at Syracuse University School of Architecture . She arrived at the Center this summer with a deep curiosity about historic preservation and a design philosophy that feels right at home here.

Getting to Know Violet:

🌎 Dream Design Location: Mexico City! Violet is drawn to the way contemporary design meets older courtyard traditions there — colorful, grounded, and intentional.

🍃 Ideal Outdoor Space: Peaceful. Expansive. Immersive.

🏠 Favorite Center Discovery: The way the roof frames the sky and trees, casting a subtle blue-green light into the space. Quiet and intentional — she noticed exactly the right thing.

🎵 Summer Vibes: Lana Del Rey and Addison Rae

💄 Always Prepared: Lip gloss

🎬 Garden Inspiration: Spirited Away — we would absolutely visit that garden.

Violet came to the Center inspired by Rose's belief that good design is never truly finished — that it should stay flexible, experimental, and alive. As she puts it, "good design is not static, it grows." Rose would have agreed completely.

Garden tours continue Tuesday-Sunday, 10am-4pm.

What does the Center look like through an artist's eyes?

Ridgewood artist Eric Santoli has been sketching and painting at the James Rose Center this spring — and on June 13, you're invited to see what he found here. Join us for an opening reception from 3 to 5 pm, meet Eric, and explore four weeks of original works and art prints created in and inspired by this landscape.

The exhibition runs June 13–July 12. Works and prints are available for purchase.

Something we're excited about this June.

We're partnering with artist Eric Santoli — plein air painter, Ridgewood native, artist-in-residence at Monet's Garden in Giverny — for an installation with original works of the James Rose Center, an opening reception on June 13th, and a workshop on June 23rd.
