Today, we were able to deliver our first copy of Dr. Peter Coleman's "Complete Freedom from Opioid Addiction - A Guide from a Recovering Physician" to Our Community Home during their annual site visit.

VARR recently purchased copies of the book and were donated some by Dr. Coleman himself. Our goal is to get a copy on the bookshelf of every recovery residence in Virginia.

The bookshelf in a recovery residence is a sacred spot. It is a place where residents can rediscover reading and curiosity, explore resources, and embrace the gifts of recovery through written word. A single, powerful piece of literature on that shelf can spark a new journey and save a life.

Happy National Recovery Month!💜

In honor of recovery month, we would like to express our gratitude for all of the recovery residence operators in Virginia, including their staff, peers and residents. It is the communities you all create and the connections you forge that help to cultivate recovery throughout Virginia one day at a time.

August 31 is International Overdose Awareness Day (IOAD) . Today we honor the 25th International Overdose Awareness Day.

For 25 years, International Overdose Awareness Day has brought people together to remember those we’ve lost and to take action to save lives.

Overdose continues to affect every community. Yet it can be prevented. Last year, VARR observed a decrease in overdoses within our Virginia network of accredited recovery residences.

All recovery residences that achieve VARR accreditation are required to have naloxone available in plain sight and accessible on every level of each residence.

Our office has been working with Kathy and Homebuddies since they started in 2023 - it's been inspiring to watch the recovery residence evolve and grow. It's always a joy to witness an operator solidify roots, sustain and continue to provide critical recovery residence services to their community.

Throughout our years of accrediting Recovering Hands Women's Extended Care Center Substance Use Solution, they have been working hard towards opening their "Recovery Hall". This year that vision came to fruition - it is now open and functional with increased space for life skills development, peer support, yoga, events and more. Congratulations!💜

Located in Nathalie, Virginia, Recovering Hands is dedicated to providing support and residential extended-care to women suffering the effects of substance abuse.

It's been a fulfilling past week traveling the state for on-site reviews. We even carved out some time to explore Virginia's Natural Tunnel State Park.

Let's take a look at the faces helping to ensure people in their community have access to quality recovery housing.
