A little rain didn’t stop us from having a fun weekend at Heart of Virginia Council, Scouting America T. brady Saunders! We found a tiny turtle, launched water rockets, went for a hike, and enjoyed showing some younger scouts the ropes of camping! Now it’s time to dry out the tents once this weather clears up!

We love helping with the Trinity United Methodist Church Richmond VA pumpkin patch every year!

This weekend we partnered with Virginia Outside for a 2 day canoeing adventure on the James River! We persevered through some less than ideal weather conditions the first day, learning a lot about river navigation and really using our muscles to PADDLE HARD against a strong headwind. The second day we were able to fish from our canoes and enjoy a more leisurely trip. Aside from the wind on the river, we once again had absolutely epic weather with blue skies and clear water.

Thanks to our guides Mr Lee and Dylan for facilitating our time on the river and providing fantastic instruction in all things outdoor related.

✅13 miles on the Virginia Capital Trail today! As part of our bicycling initiative we spent a beautiful morning enjoying this gorgeous early fall scenery and some much appreciated cloud cover!

After all the fun we had riding bikes at summer camp, we decided to work on the Cycling Merit Badge to start off the year! Today we learned basics of bike assessment and repair, and safety signals.

Annnnnd we’re back at it! Troop 799G spent the weekend camping at Bear Creek Lake State Park. We enjoyed a “5(ish)” mile hike that was actually 7 miles 😅 (7 rounds down to 5, ladies!), swimming in the lake, cooking hot dogs on the grill, s’mores, learning about native plants, campfire songs, first aid instruction, trail lunches, card games, and so much more! It was a great first camping trip of the school year!

This week ten of our scouts attended Heart of Virginia Council, Scouting America Camp T.Brady Saunders. We enjoyed all that camp had to offer including a variety of badge classes, swimming in Lake Dillon, biking around camp, the snack bar, Iron Scout, singing at closing campfire, and enjoying our beautiful campsite. We can’t wait to go back!

Today we participated in Scout Sunday at Trinity United Methodist Church Richmond VA. Today is also the 116th anniversary of scouting so it was a fitting day to help the church collect donations for their Soup-er Bowl fundraiser benefiting local food banks. Our troop was recognized by the church, led a prayer, and helped during the tithing.
