We’ve been supporting kids and caring for families going on 7 years. This evening we delivered a trunk load of food to a single father, like we’ve done a hundred times before. This guy is a single parent taking care of 4 young children who lost one to su***de. He works everyday to care for his kids with no help. For the first time in over 6 years I felt unusually broken and deeply sad for him. I watched him walk away as we left and an overwhelming sense of sorrow and grief came over me. Now burned and etched in my mind is him sitting in his home daily trying to figure out how to provide for his kids and find some sense of normalcy and happiness in this cruel and hateful world while I go home to my comfortable life far from what he deals with everyday. Something about this guy that sunk me today. And it doesn’t feel good.
