We’ve been a little quieter here as our community experiences unimaginable loss from the Hawk Fire.

Our hearts are with the families who have lost their homes and so much more, and with the many members of our community, staff and friends who have been affected. We know recovery will take time, and right now, we’re holding our neighbors especially close.

We’re deeply grateful for the firefighters, first responders, volunteers and organizations working tirelessly to keep people safe and care for those impacted.

For those looking for ways to help, several local and regional organizations are providing assistance. Right now, one of the most effective ways to make an immediate difference is through monetary donations. Financial contributions give organizations working directly with victims the flexibility to meet the most urgent needs, purchase exactly what is needed and respond as those needs change. They also reduce the time, space and resources required to collect, sort and distribute donated goods.

As they come, we’ll continue to share ways to help as our community begins to heal and rebuild.

We’re back at Pigeon Head Brewery this Friday at 5 p.m. for a family-friendly BINGO fundraiser benefiting Urban Roots. We’ll have six prizes up for grabs, including a countertop composter waiting for one lucky grand prize winner.

🥬For their final week at the Urban Roots Teaching Farm, campers explored some of the wild neighbors that call our region home! They searched for spiders around the farm, tested their Lahontan cutthroat trout knowledge with a game of Jeopardy and learned about bird migration. They also created moth wings, raccoon masks and fairy gardens, and celebrated with a costume dance party. In the kitchen, they whipped up kale apple salad, egg tacos, veggie quesadillas and popsicles.
