Project Baseline Project Baseline increases awareness about the health of 70+ marine and freshwater environments in 27+ countries. www.projectbaseline.org

Project Baseline is a marine and freshwater conservation initiative started in 2009 by the charitable, not-for-profit organization Global Underwater Explorers (GUE). Project Baseline is at the forefront of increasing awareness about the health of 70+ marine and freshwater environments world-wide. The organization’s mission is embodied by each volunteer run chapter, or projects, that establish environmental baselines for our world's aquatic environments and publicize their condition in manners that inspire the public to demand and support effective protection. The collection of underwater and surface observations (over 1,500 images) are publicly available in Project Baseline's spatial database - projectbaseline.org/database.

Project Baseline divers collaborated with Groundworks North East in the UK to create and document oyster restoration in the Tyne area. Divers were used to baseline the artificial reef deployed by Groundworks and then helped to install oyster cages into the deployed reef cubes. Over 3 separate project weekends over 25 cubes were documented, with good initial evidence that the restoration work is having positive results.

One year on from the deployment of specialist oyster reef cubes’ in the North Sea, dive surveys show native oysters surviving on the oyster restoration site.
