Meet one of our Legacy Scholarship recipients, Kyle Blanchard.

"My name is Kyle Blanchard, a native Nevadan from Spanish Springs. I am entering my second year at the University of Idaho, studying wildlife sciences and management. This fall I will have the amazing opportunity to participate in the semester in the wild program. I will be completing all of my schooling from outdoor classrooms in the Frank Church River of No Return Wilderness. Currently, this summer I am in my second year of the Lathrop-Capurro internship working for NDOW out of Tonopah. I love to spend my free time fishing, hunting, hiking, or anything that gets me outdoors."

Congratulations Kyle!

The last guzzler build of the 2026 season is complete!

35 volunteers from all over the state came to the Pancake Range to help us out last weekend. This build included a 72' x 80' apron with 6 tanks installed for a 12,000-gallon-capacity guzzler for the bighorn sheep in the area. 10,000 gallons were charged to make the guzzler fully operable.

Did you know? In 2025, a Nevada bill was passed to increase the maximum capacity of guzzlers from 20,000 gallons to 40,000 gallons. This gives wildlife water systems double the storage capacity, meaning more water is available during drought periods and less reliance on emergency water hauls. Fewer emergency hauls mean lower costs, less strain on volunteer crews, and more reliable water access for wildlife across Nevada's ranges.

This is why we do it. Every guzzler built. Every spring enhanced. Every fence installed to protect it. This is what our Water Development Program is working toward: providing water to wildlife where it matters most.

These trail cam pictures really bring it full circle. If you're interested in volunteering at our last guzzler on August 15th, send us a DM.

Under clear skies and hot temperatures, the Snake North Marble Guzzler in White Pine County was completed with the help of 32 NBU volunteers and 9 NDOW employees.

The new improvements were undertaken due to the advanced age and small size of the previous ground apron guzzler. The new improvements include a 54' x 60' metal collection apron, six storage tanks (2,300 gallons each), a drinker, pipe rail, and barbed wire fencing. Three storage tanks (1,800 gallons each) from the previous guzzler were connected to the new features to collect overflow water. With the new storage tanks plus the old storage tanks, the guzzler now has a storage capacity of approximately 18,000 gallons of water.

The Dianda family purchased the dedication rights in the memory of Norman L. Dianda, husband, father, and grandfather. A pillar in the community, outdoorsman, hunter, and conservationist. A man who not only gave back to the community but also to the wildlife he pursued over the years.
