When our first responders call for help, YOU are the 911 to their 911.

You are the calm in the chaos, the steady hands in uncertainty, and the compassionate hearts waiting on the other side of the ambulance doors.

You care for our communities in their most vulnerable moments. You stand shoulder to shoulder with EMS, firefighters, law enforcement, dispatchers, and fellow healthcare professionals—often carrying the emotional weight of emergencies long after your shift ends.

At the Nevada Peer Support Network (NVPSN), we recognize that even those who answer the call need someone to answer theirs. 💙

Your strength is extraordinary, but strength doesn’t mean carrying everything alone.

Behind every strong emergency nurse is a human being who deserves compassion, connection, recovery, and support.

This week, we celebrate your courage, clinical expertise, compassion, resilience, and unwavering dedication to those you serve.

And we remind you: It’s okay to not be okay. Even the rescuers need rescuing sometimes.

🎤 From Peer Support to the TEDx Stage

The Nevada Peer Support Network is proud to share that our Board of Directors Vice President, Dr. Natasha Lukasiewich, DNP, MSN, MBA, RN will be taking the stage at TEDx South Lake Tahoe 2026!

On October 3, Natasha will present:

“Gritsilience: The Missing Skill Beneath the Surface”

This year’s TEDx theme, Beneath the Surface, invites us to look beyond what we see on the outside—to the stories, experiences, challenges, and strengths that shape who we are.

That message resonates deeply with the work we do at NVPSN. In first response, healthcare, public safety, and other high-stakes professions, there is often far more happening beneath the surface than others can see. Peer support creates a space where those experiences can be acknowledged, shared, and supported.

We’re incredibly excited to see Natasha bring the conversation about Gritsilience, human connection, recovery, and what it takes to keep moving forward to the TEDx stage.

💜 SEPTEMBER | SU***DE PREVENTION AWARENESS MONTH 💜

They answer the call.
They run toward the emergency.
They care for the injured.
They protect our communities.
They sit on the other end of 911.

But who checks on them?

At Nevada Peer Support Network, we recognize the invisible weight carried by our law enforcement officers, firefighters, EMS clinicians, nurses, healthcare professionals, and dispatchers.

The data remind us why this matters. First responders face unique occupational stressors and may be at increased risk for su***de. CDC/NIOSH reports that law enforcement officers and firefighters have historically been more likely to die by su***de than in the line of duty, while EMS clinicians have been reported to have a 39% higher risk of su***de than the general public. Dispatchers also experience significant rates of PTSD and depression.

Healthcare professionals carry their own burden. CDC occupational data show elevated su***de rates among some healthcare occupations, including female healthcare practitioners and registered nurses.

These aren’t just statistics.

They are our partners. Our coworkers. Our friends. Our family. Our people.

This month, we ask you to do something simple:

💙 Check on the ones who check on everyone else.

Don’t settle for “I’m fine.”
Ask again.
Listen without judgment.
Stay connected.
Remind them they don’t have to carry it alone.

Peer support matters because sometimes the person who understands best is someone who has stood where you are standing.
