If you're reading this and you're a dad who has loved a child through hard things, this is for you.

The nights you didn't know if you were getting it right.

The moments you stayed calm on the outside when you weren't sure on the inside.

The times a child pushed you away and you stayed anyway, because you understood that the pushing was the point. That they needed to know you wouldn't leave.

You may never fully know what that gave them. But we do. We see it in the kids we serve at Children's Legacy Center. We see what it means to a child to have a man in their corner who is safe, steady, and truly present.

You are changing the story for a child who needed a different one. That is worth celebrating today and every single day.

Happy Father's Day from everyone at Children's Legacy Center.

A child is not their diagnosis.
A child is not their behavior.
A child is not their trauma.

They are a whole person. Their mind, their body, their relationships, and their environment are all connected. Which means support that only addresses one piece of the picture will only go so far.

At Children's Legacy Center, we try to see the whole child. Not just what brought them here.

Our offices will be closed on Friday, June 19, in honor of Juneteenth.

We take this time to pause and reflect together as a team. Juneteenth is a day to remember the journey toward freedom and to honor the strength and resilience of those who came before us.

We are grateful for the opportunity to stand with our community in the ongoing work toward equity, healing, and hope for all.

Body safety conversations do not have to be scary. They just have to happen.

Children who know the correct names for their body parts, understand the difference between safe and unsafe touch, know that no one should ask them to keep secrets about their body, and have a trusted adult they can tell anything to are better protected than children who do not.

You do not need a script. You need a few simple, honest conversations that happen more than once.

Start small. Start early. Start now.

The kid who used to love school and now refuses to get out of the car.

The teenager who has always been steady starts coming undone at the edges.

The child who goes quiet in ways that feel different from before.

Behavior is communication. And when a child does not have words for what they are experiencing, their body and behavior will find another way to say it.

Stress. Trauma. Neurodivergence. A nervous system overwhelmed. Unmet needs. Fear.

Before correction, try curiosity. Before consequences, try connection.

What is this child trying to tell me that they cannot say out loud?

Prevention that works goes beyond rules.

Regular conversations, skill-building, and emotional regulation are what keep young people safe online. Not fear-based messaging. Not taking their phone.

We created a Social Media Safety Checklist for parents, caregivers, and teens that covers privacy and account settings, what to post and share, how to respond when something goes wrong, and conversation starters you can actually use.

Save this. Share it with a parent you know.

A safe adult does not need to have all the answers.

They need to listen without immediately trying to fix things.

Stay calm when a child shares something hard.

Believe what they are told without making the child prove it.

Know when to get help rather than handle it alone.

Children who can name their safe adults before something goes wrong are more likely to disclose when something does. Research consistently shows this.

We created a free resource to help families have this conversation. The My Safe Circle worksheet helps children identify their safe people and safe places, and practice what to do if something feels wrong.

June is National Safety Month. Safe adults create safe childhoods.

Most people know we do forensic interviews.

Fewer people know what happens after.

After a child is interviewed at Children's Legacy Center, a coordinated team reviews what was shared. Law enforcement. Child protective services. Medical professionals. Advocates. All working from the same information, so the child does not have to tell their story over and over again.

Then comes the part that can last months or even years: advocacy, therapy through our Center for Resilience, family support, care coordination, referrals, and ongoing collaboration with our MDT partners as families navigate investigations, services, and, when needed, the criminal justice process.

The interview is just one moment.

The support that follows is what helps families move forward.

When a child finally finds the words to tell someone what happened, that moment is everything. It took courage that most adults will never fully understand.

What happens next matters just as much.

At Children's Legacy Center, we have spent years building a place where that moment is met with the care it deserves. Where children are believed. Where families do not have to figure out what comes next alone.

That is the work. Every single day.
