Far Northern Regional Center

Far Northern Regional Center Providing services and supports that allow people with developmental disabilities to live productive and valued lives.

The regional center is conceived of as a fixed point of reference for individuals with developmental disabilities and their families. The regional center achieves its mission primarily through case management services, coordinating community resources such as education, health, welfare, rehabilitation and recreation for individuals with developmental disabilities. Services and supports are provide

d by the regional center to assist individuals to reach their maximum potential. To the extent that people with disabilities are treated as passive and incapable, that is what they will be. To the extent that people with disabilities are given the opportunity to be full participants in determining the directions of their lives, that is what they will become. The regional center focuses its efforts on the latter. The desire to have personal control over our lives is a value we all share. In California legislation, the Lanterman Developmental Disabilities Act underscores the importance of this commonly held value by stating that individuals (and where appropriate, their parents, legal guardian, or conservator) "...should participate in decisions affecting their own lives, including, but not limited to, where and with whom they live, their relationships with people in their community, the way in which they spend their time, including education, employment, and leisure, and the pursuit of their own personal future, and program planning and implementation." Far Northern Regional Center attempts to provide a structure and service delivery system to assure that this value is realized in the lives of the people we serve. Far Northern Regional Center is responsible for serving residents of the nine counties in Northern California (Butte, Glenn, Lassen, Modoc, Plumas, Tehama, Trinity, Shasta and Siskiyou). FNRC also serves individuals from these nine counties who reside in California state developmental centers (formerly called state hospitals). Entry to or discharge from state developmental centers is coordinated through the regional centers.

🧠💜 June is Alzheimer's & Brain Awareness Month 💜🧠

This month, we raise awareness about Alzheimer's disease and other forms of dementia while recognizing the importance of brain health at every stage of life.

Alzheimer's affects millions of individuals and families, creating challenges that extend far beyond memory loss. By increasing awareness, promoting early detection, and supporting research, we can help build a future with better outcomes for those affected by these conditions.

Far Northern Regional Center recognizes the importance of education, support, and community resources for individuals and families navigating Alzheimer's and other brain-related conditions.

Join us this month in learning more about brain health, supporting caregivers, and raising awareness for those impacted by Alzheimer's disease. 💜

Safety Tip: Reports of Skin Cancer have been on the rise. In the past 10 years Public Health has reported an increase of 47% in skin cancer diagnosis. This is a disturbing number to consider. If you plan to be out in the sun for extended periods of time remember to apply sunscreen. You can also consider wearing clothing that keeps most of your skin covered. Hats can hep shield your face and head from sun rays. Don’t end up as a statistic, recognize the importance to protect yourself.

Today, we’re proud to recognize FNRC’s incredible Unit 170 team — a dedicated group of professionals serving individuals and families across Siskiyou, Modoc, Lassen, Eastern Shasta County, and beyond. ❤️
What makes Unit 170 truly unique is the wide range of support they provide throughout every stage of life — from early intervention services for young children to adult services, intake, prevention, provisional eligibility, and ongoing case management. Their team spans multiple offices and hundreds of miles, yet they continue to work together with one shared goal: putting individuals and families first.
Collectively, Unit 170 brings more than 165 years of combined experience supporting individuals with developmental disabilities and their families. Their backgrounds include education, behavioral health, residential services, enhanced care management, administration, direct support, and community advocacy — creating a team rich in knowledge, compassion, and collaboration.
Team members shared inspiring stories of individuals gaining meaningful employment, finding safe and stable housing, achieving independence, and building lives rooted in dignity and choice. They also highlighted the importance of being the “face” of Far Northern Regional Center in many rural communities where services can be limited and travel times are long. Whether driving hours to meet with families, collaborating with schools and agencies, or supporting individuals through life-changing transitions, Unit 170 consistently shows up with dedication and heart.
The team emphasized that what matters most to them is person-centered support, continuity of care, teamwork, and advocacy. Even while spread across several counties and offices, they continue to rely on and support one another every day.
We also want to extend a special congratulations to Lucas Morris, who was recently recognized as an Advocacy Hero for his outstanding commitment to ensuring individuals and families receive the support, resources, and advocacy they deserve. 👏
Thank you, Unit 170, for the compassion, creativity, teamwork, and unwavering commitment you bring to the communities we serve every single day. Your work truly makes a difference.
