What does 22.5 million visits to Downtown Raleigh actually look like? 🏙️

It looks like a family spending a Saturday at Marbles. Friends meeting for dinner. A packed park during a Canes playoff game. A concert at Red Hat Amphitheater. A wedding in City Market. A championship parade stretching down Fayetteville Street.

Over the past year, 5.1 million unique visitors made 22.5 million visits to downtown. More than 192,000 came for the Canes’ championship celebration alone, while another 82,000+ additional visitors came downtown for Stanley Cup Final watch parties.

Those numbers reflect something bigger: Downtown Raleigh is where our community comes together. Six years after downtown’s streets were quiet and still, we’ve seen this place become a gathering place again for some of our region’s biggest moments.

There’s still a lot to do, but there’s an awful lot to be proud of, too. The 2026 State of Downtown Raleigh Report gives us a look at how far we’ve come and what’s ahead.

The Oakline has been getting people talking. So what's next? 🌳

At our State of Downtown event last week, we shared the vision for an elevated, tree-canopy promenade connecting Downtown Raleigh to Dix Park. Designed for people of all ages and abilities, The Oakline would create a one-of-a-kind public space for walking, biking, gathering, and exploring while linking neighborhoods, cultural landmarks, and the greenway. And we want all those people visiting Dix Park to come downtown to shop, eat, stay, and enjoy our attractions, too!

Now, we're having real conversations with partners about what it could take to bring that vision to life. Next, a deeper feasibility study will help determine what's possible and what the next steps could look like. We'll keep you posted as the conversation continues!

Read our State of Downtown report to discover what projects are shaping the future of our community and learn more about The Oakline at theoakline.org.
