Today, we recognize the histories, cultures, and contributions of Indigenous peoples and the lasting connections they have to the lands we call home.

As Scouts, we spend time exploring the outdoors, learning about the world around us, and developing respect for others. Indigenous Peoples’ Day is an opportunity to learn about Indigenous cultures and traditions, recognize the communities that have shaped our region, and appreciate the knowledge and perspectives they share.

Respect for the outdoors includes understanding its history and honoring the people and traditions connected to it.

You do not have to be involved in traditional scouting to get involved in this! If one of the programs below looks like it might be for you, email [email protected]

Congratulations to Jason Bird on receiving the Duke of Edinburgh Gold Award!

Jason was recognized at a special ceremony at the British Ambassador’s Residence in Washington, DC, where he received his Gold Award from His Royal Highness The Duke of Edinburgh.

An Eagle Scout with Troop 39, Jason has continued to live out the values of Scouting well beyond earning his Eagle rank. He recently graduated from UNC Charlotte with a master’s degree in mechanical engineering and remains active in Scouting as a College Unit Reserve. He has also represented Scouting internationally through participation in the 2019 World Scout Jamboree and the 2025 World Scout Moot.

The Duke of Edinburgh’s Gold Award is an internationally recognized achievement that represents significant commitment, service, personal development and perseverance.

We’re proud to celebrate this incredible accomplishment and the continued impact Jason is making in Scouting and beyond.
