Every year, 20,000 young people across the country age out of foster care - and many face that transition without a strong support system to lean on. ๐Ÿ’™

Youth who age out are more likely to experience homelessness, joblessness, and other serious hardships. But research tells us that one of the most powerful protective factors is a consistent, caring adult in their corner.

That is where YOU come in.

Teaming with Teens - Caregiver Edition is equipping caregivers with the knowledge and tools to be exactly that for the teens in their care. Sessions are free, virtual, and open to licensed foster parents and community members curious about fostering teens. Only one session left and it has already filled up! Join the waitlist today!

This is why we do what we do. ๐Ÿ’™

One of our foster parents came to us while navigating the emotional challenges of fostering a teenager. Through our peer coaching program, she was connected with one of our coaches and one of our therapists - and what followed was truly transformative.

She found perspective. She found balance. She found support that met her exactly where she was.

Foster parenting is not easy. You should never have to walk through it alone. FFA-NC's peer coaching program connects resource parents with experienced coaches who get it - because they have lived it too.

The numbers tell a powerful story. ๐Ÿ’™

Relatives across North Carolina are stepping up for children in foster care in a big way - and that is something worth celebrating. Kinship care keeps children connected to their family, their culture, and the people who love them most. That matters deeply.

But with this growth comes a critical need. Kinship caregivers often say yes quickly and without much preparation - because when a child in the family needs a home, you show up. FFA-NC is here to make sure those caregivers have the support, resources, and community they need to thrive in that role.

Are you a kinship caregiver who could use some support? We are here for you. Visit ffa-nc.org/kinship

Superintendent Maurice "Mo" Green Launches North Carolina Superintendentโ€™s Parent Advisory Council to Strengthen Family Voice in Public Education

RALEIGH, N.C. โ€” The North Carolina Department of Public Instruction today announced the launch of the North Carolina Superintendentโ€™s Parent Advisory Council, a new statewide initiative designed to strengthen meaningful family engagement in public education and support implementation of the stateโ€™s Strategic Plan.

The North Carolina Superintendentโ€™s Parent Advisory Council will bring together parent leaders from across the state to serve in an advisory capacity aligned to the eight State Board of Education regions. The initiative is designed to elevate informed family voice, strengthen trust and ensure that those closest to students play an active role in shaping the future of public education.

For purposes of this initiative, the term "parent" is intended to be inclusive of all primary caregivers, including guardians and other family members who play a central role in a childโ€™s education.

โ€œAs we continue to implement our Strategic Plan, it is critical that we engage families not just as stakeholders, but as informed partners,โ€ said North Carolina Superintendent Maurice "Mo" Green. โ€œThis Council will help us build a strong group of leaders who understand our system and can provide meaningful input to improve outcomes for students.โ€

Applications Available Now
Parents and caregivers interested in serving on the North Carolina Superintendentโ€™s Parent Advisory Council may submit an application beginning June 4, 2026.

Interested individuals should submit their completed applications directly at this link:

Applications must be submitted by September 15, 2026.

Encouraging Broad Participation

District superintendents, charter school and lab school leaders (โ€œPSU Leadersโ€) are encouraged to help identify and support strong candidates and to promote this opportunity within their communities. Applicants may also indicate if they were encouraged or nominated by their local Public School Unit.

From the pool of applicants, the North Carolina Superintendent will appoint a statewide Parent Advisory Council of 16โ€“24 members, ensuring representation from each of the eight State Board regions.

Building Informed Parent Leaders

Selected members will participate in a structured virtual orientation led by state education leaders to build understanding of:

- School governance and funding
- State and local education systems
- Accountability and performance measures
- Strategic Plan priorities

The Council will begin meeting quarterly in November 2026, providing structured input on key initiatives and helping inform ongoing implementation of the Strategic Plan.

Most meetings will be held virtually. Members of the Council will be expected to serve for two years.
