Two women were asked a simple question at an IGP Awareness session:

"Would you want your own daughter to live the life you have lived?"

Both said no. Without hesitation.

They had been married young. They had no choice, no voice, and no one who told them they could say otherwise.

But sitting in that session, something shifted.

"We will provide our daughters with such a high level of education that they will never have to depend on their husbands' money to survive."

Sons in their community inherit land, opportunity, and freedom. These women decided their daughters would inherit something too.

At a recent IGP Awareness Session, a woman stood up in front of her community.

She shared that she grew up being told her parents' house was not really her home – her real home would be her husband's.

She is pregnant now.

Her in-laws want a boy.

She wants a girl – so she can give her everything she never had.

This mother made a promise to her potential daughter to spare her from a dowry and give her an education instead.

When a mother is brave enough to break the cycle, courage becomes the first thing her daughter inherits.

Freedom is more than independence.

It's opportunity.

As India celebrates Independence Day, we also celebrate every girl who has been given the chance to learn, grow, and dream.

True freedom means being born into a world where your life is valued, your education is prioritized, and your future is yours to shape.

While incredible progress has been made, millions of girls still face discrimination simply because they are girls.

At Invisible Girl Project, we believe one of the greatest ways to honor India's future is by investing in its daughters.

Seven sisters all shaped by the same wound: parents who wanted a son.

One of those sisters now has two daughters of her own.

After sitting in an IGP awareness session, she made a commitment: both girls will be educated and neither will be married off before she is capable of being independent.

The deprivation that defined seven girls in one generation will not define two girls in the next.

That is what breaking a generational cycle looks like. 💗

Guess what?

In July, our partners and our Awareness and Prevention Education team hosted events at over 473 schools across India.

That means we reached girls in each of these schools with the message that they are valuable and deserve a future free from female gendercide.

When we reach a school, we reach the community.

We are so excited to see continued growth!
