Reporters have to find stories worth telling, ask the right questions, verify what they hear, and make sense of conflicting information, often on a deadline. They also need the curiosity and persistence to keep digging when the first answer isn't enough.

At Patrick Henry College, journalism students put these skills into practice as they learn the craft of reporting, interviewing, pitching, and writing. But how would your instincts hold up in the newsroom? Take the quiz here: https://hubs.ly/Q04wMZ760.

At the end of every semester, the Study Support Center (SSC) hosts a study party featuring snacks, tutoring help, and a bevy of dogs available for petting. The main attraction is Tucker, Dr. Roberts’ famous beagle, whom Dr. Roberts typically mentions at least once every logic class, either in a syllogism or to demonstrate a point.

Enjoy this throwback to previous SSC study parties.

PHC alumnus Sam Bittner graduated from United States Air Force Basic Training as the Top Graduate of his class of 797 graduates.

“So much of Basic Military Training is focused on being able to state what you need to say clearly and concisely, and communicating effectively with the training instructors,” Sam said. “PHC prepared me well for that.”

For this Throwback Thursday, see what Harmonicomedy looked like back in 2011 and 2013! Anybody else want to bring Mr. Edling back?

Don’t know what Harmonicomedy is? During finals season, students take a break from studying to head into Town Hall for the biannual comedy show featuring an array of comedic student acts. The show was started by Scott York (’09) and David Carver (’08) in 2006 to bring the campus together; since then, it's continued to do the same, gathering quite a lot of laughs along the way.

Hear from PHC’s Music Department Director, Dr. Kristina Tanner, about her passion for PHC and God’s sense of humor in bringing her here.

"I applied to teach piano as an adjunct at PHC twenty years ago because a friend of mine was there teaching piano at the time. I loved the idea of serving God at a Christian college, and I had always wanted to teach piano and music academic courses at an undergraduate institution. I did not know that I would get married, that I would have children, that I would feel called to homeschool them, and that I would end up deciding that Classical education is the best form available in Christian education. All those things, of course, ended up happening, showing that God knows me incredibly well, and also that He has a good sense of humor.

When the full-time music program director position opened, I applied because I love the program, the core, the students, and the intentions of PHC. I am actually one of those people who gets really excited reading the catalog material about Classical Christian education, and I also love spending time with PHC's students, who are usually a huge blessing in terms of excellent conversation and excitement for learning.

In the long term, I am so grateful to be at PHC, where the primary goals for both faculty and students center on knowing God better; seeking to build more Christlike character; sharing joy in examples of goodness, truth, and beauty; and teaching information and skills not just through lecture but by example and by sharing our lives in Christian community. It's a unique place, and I am blessed over and over by the gift of serving in it."
