Desks for Distance

Hello all!

Does anyone have connections that would be willing to donate materials towards a paver patio? Pavers, sand, gravel, etc. We are also making garden beds, so connections with cedar boards would be ideal.

We are working on a patio in the Woodgrove High School courtyard. This area would serve as an area for special needs individuals (majority wheelchair bound) to access the courtyard and fresh air. We will also be creating raised garden beds to allow them to smell and touch plants and flowers.

On top of that, we are making garden beds for the school. These beds will be used to grow plants that will be sold at local markets and at school. They are also used to teach special needs students job skills through the planting and harvesting of these beds.

Little update on me - senior year is going great, I’ve been accepted into William & Mary and have decided to go there in the fall. Hope you all are doing well!

Hey everybody! Hope you all are well as we move into winter weather. ❄️

I recently built 2 desks for a local nonprofit called Vine & Fig Tree. They offer paid internships to under resourced populations. Two interns needed a desk and I built them. Here’s a pic of one of those desks below.

Hey everybody, long time no see!

Sorry for the lack of posts - Summer has been busy to say the least! In total, 225 desks have been made and donated to students in need. Super proud of that number!

However - with school approaching and the majority going back into the building, I have seen the need for desks drop. So, I pivoted.

Serve Camp is a summer program that empowers and inspires young people to make change happen. They reached out to me and asked if I’d be willing to help with a project. Since then I have guided groups of 15-20 kids and shown them how to build raised garden beds, picnic tables and flower boxes. I have truly enjoyed the experience and am proud to present the (almost) finished Hope Park, located at Mobile Hope Leesburg (For context - Mobile Hope is an organization located in Leesburg that helps homeless and struggling youth / families).

The goal was to make a space where these kids can come to and unwind, relax and enjoy the outdoors. With my instruction, the kid and teen workers made 8 raised flower beds, 16 flower boxes and 1 picknick table. I used around $2,500 of Lowe’s gift cards on tools and wood for Hope Park and I’m so happy it’s turning out great!

The space will soon have a stage, fire pit, and chairs. Will post more photos as it comes together!

As for right now, I’m currently on a looonnng plane to Oregon. I have family up there and have wanted to visit for a while. Will be back in town in 2 weeks.

If you all have any questions, or any suggestions as to what my next project should be, please comment them! I need another volunteer task now that this is winding down. I still have roughly $4500 of Lowe’s Gift cards left from Ellen DeGeneres. Can’t wait to keep using them for good.

Hey everyone! Leah, my brother and I made 5 more frames. We have 11 total now. These will be going to an elementary school in Herndon!

I am currently on spring break (beach time!) but can’t wait to get back and keep working! Have a great day everyone. 😀

Hey everyone! Sorry I’ve been gone for a bit, I’ve been busy! Today me and Leah Hegerich build 3 big desks and 6 of the new design ones! They still need the tops to go on but they already look great!

On top of that, 5 desks were picked over Saturday and Sunday.

If you haven’t checked out Brayden's Buds , created by Luke Jenkins, please do! Luke is a friend of mine at Woodgrove. We teamed up to provide two desks to siblings and pediatric patients in palliative / hospice care. We will definitely be working together more in the future!

Brayden is Luke’s brother, and unfortunately he suffers from many health conditions. They have spent lots of time in the hospital and Luke wanted to give back. He created Brayden's Buds to collect goods and gifts for patients and their siblings. He’s an awesome dude, please check out his page!

Hey everyone! If you wanted a desk, but the 2x4 feet desktop was too large for you, good news! I’m changing up my design for a bit! These two designs also have different heights, so you can choose which one is best for you!

I’ll be using Evans plans - he’s a teacher out of Iowa who’s built over 1000 desks! Please check out / like his page, Woodworking with a Purpose!
