CASA Volunteers advocate for abused and neglected children in Court. CASA programs recruit, screen, train and supervise CASA Volunteers.

CASA of Pueblo is a private, non-profit (501 C 3) organization governed by a volunteer Board of Directors and currently employs 9 paid staff.

CASA of Pueblo staff spent much of the month participating in community events. Early in the month, we attended Beacon Fest and shared information about our agency and volunteer opportunities. One of our favorite events is Fright Night on the Riverwalk, where we handed out treats to hundreds (if not more!) children. We attended Fall Fest at PSAS, Healthy Halloween with CSUP Nursing Program, and ended the month at Legal Resource Day at the Judicial Building. Wishing all the trick-or-treaters (little ones and big ones alike!) a safe and fun-filled Halloween!

Thank you to our friends at Black Hills Energy for hosting a coat drive not only here in our Pueblo community, but in La Junta and Cañon City as well! The coats collected in these three communities will be given to our children and families as the colder season approaches. Thank you Black Hills Energy for helping to keep our families warm!

As we approach the last few months of the year we are helping our CASA children have a brighter holiday season. It can be a very emotional and difficult time for the children we serve. They often are placed away from their immediate family; living with kin or in foster care. Last year we helped to provided gifts and needed items for more than 400 children. W hope to help just as many, if not more this year. We are looking for individuals or businesses who would like to sponsor a child or family during the holiday season. Please help us wish a happy work anniversary to our Pueblo Program Director, Tammy Prutch!! Tammy has actually been with our organization longer than 19 years as she started with us a couple of years earlier as a CASA volunteer and now 19 years as an employee. We are so grateful for Tammy's dedication and commitment to children, families and our volunteer advocates!

Help us congratulation September's Volunteer of the Month, Gaynell Tseng! Gaynell has advocated for children in our community since 2020 and is passionate about helping children thrive in safe and permanent homes. She brings an uplifting perspective to her kiddos and helps them as they move through the child welfare system to hopefully reunite with their parents. Thank you, Gaynell for all you do!

Friends, when we arrived at our offices yesterday after the long weekend, we noticed several pieces of trash discarded next to our sidewalk. Before we could get out there to pick it up, it was gone. This gentleman walking his dog was nice enough to pick it up for us. We don't know who he is but we can't thank him enough for helping us in this way. It was really nice and appreciated. The pic is not great, but if you happen to recognize him, please help us thank him.

Our friends, Craig Elliot, Todd Kelly and Kevin Keilbach are back with their 7th annual Amateur Comedy Night and this year the proceeds are being donated to CASA of Pueblo! Tickets are very limited and sell out quickly. The QR Code to purchase is in the comments. We hope you will consider joining them for a fun night with lots of laughs. 21+ Event, Thursday, September 17, 2026. Doors open at 6 pm and show starts at 7 pm. We'd like to thank the Jones family for sharing their personal and heartfelt gifts donated to CASA of Pueblo in honor of their son Ragnar. Ragnar passed at the tender age of 14 months. In a loving tribute they wanted to celebrate his birthday by giving gifts to a child who may need toys and clothing. Ragnar would have been celebrating his 2nd birthday today. The family stopped by earlier in the month to deliver gifts. We visited for a short bit and learned what a special little boy Ragnar was. He brightened their lives and he is still loved dearly. Our hearts are with this sweet family today; we know they are missing him everyday, but today a bit more. Thank you for generously giving to another child in his honor; we will make sure to pass along the story of his precious life.
