Rodeo is not immune to su***de, or to the immense loss left behind when someone we love is gone.
During Su***de Prevention Awareness Month, we are naming that reality. In 2022, the su***de rate in rural America was nearly 50% higher than in urban communities.
That number matters, but prevention is about more than a statistic. It can start with a conversation.
Sometimes that conversation is with a family member, a friend or a partner. Sometimes even that can feel like too much.
WSF provides rodeo athletes access to free, confidential counseling, helping turn that first ask for help into a connection with a real person and a pathway to ongoing care. You don’t have to be in crisis or know exactly what to say. “I’m having a hard time” is enough.
If you or someone you care about is in crisis or having thoughts of su***de, call or text 988 first. Then reach out to WSF at wsf.org. We’ll be here to help with what comes next. No Athlete Rides Alone.
