Dear Community Members,
We are writing to provide updates on TGI Network.
Last week, a board member and two long standing volunteers resigned.
First, we thank them for their support of TGI Network. Their work has benefited many community members and is appreciated.
Second, we acknowledge that each of them shared important feedback with us, the remaining members of the board. This feedback is valuable and important and we recognize the labor that went into sharing it.
TGI Network is Rhode Island's only organization whose sole mission centers on Rhode Island's trans, gender-diverse, and intersex community. We recognize we've fallen short of our mission and are committed to working to make it right. Rhode Island deserves an organization ready to meet this moment, act in solidarity with others, and be accountable to our community.
This Spring, we engaged a local consultant who will lead a community listening and strategic planning process. In June, we promise to share more information about the process and how to engage with it for those who are interested. The TGI Board promises to listen to the feedback of the community with humility and to center the needs of the community as we chart a future path.
We anticipate this work starting in earnest after Pride, TGI's busiest season. TGI anticipates doing outreach during the Pride season to ensure folks statewide continue to have access to the peer support and social events they need.
Our transformation will include rotating the current board members out of service in a mindful way. We intend to balance future progress with organizational stability to limit disruption of services that so many in our community rely on.
If you're interested in joining the Board to be part of the Strategic Planning process, please email the consultant at [email protected], who will be assisting in the board recruitment process. We seek to on-board at least three new board members to help with this organizational transformation.
In the immediate term, we are seeking temporary and/or permanent replacement peer facilitators for the Nonbinary and Harbor Trans-Masculine peer support groups. We will also be looking for facilitators for the Borderlands peer support group in the near future. If you'd like to discuss the opportunity to facilitate a peer support group for our community, please reach out to the consultant at [email protected], who will be assisting us in this process.
Finally, if you have any questions or feedback that you'd like to share, please email [email protected]. Please note the TGI Network Board does not have access to this email address, and the consultant will not share any information about your correspondence with the Board without your consent.
We look forward to learning and growing with our community into the future.
